AUX Plug / CB Radio Question

I just installed my Uniden 520 CB inside my center console and it has a jack output for an external speaker. I tried running it to the AUX port next to the cigarette lighter so I could hear my buddies through the vehicle speakers but when I transmit I can hear myself. Sounds like a PA in my truck haha. Are these designed only to be used with the cheap external speakers?

Odd, sounds like that is specific to the CB. See if there is a switch for PA... read the manual.

I run my CB (a cobra) to the aux input and it works as expected.

Do you have 2 separate ports on the back one for PA one for Aux Speaker?

Actually, that's pretty normal, its getting a bit of "bleedover" from the audio amp inside the cb.

Most radios will do this when you plug the ext. out into an input in a vehicle. Even my Icom ham radio does this in my truck with the Alpine deck's 1/8" input.

Cheap external speakers are well worth their cost, but if you really want to run it through the deck, you can try using one of these to lower the output into the car:

I have a cheap one from Radio Shack and I'm able to lower the total volume down in the vehicle enough to almost remove the "talkback".

Of course, for the money you spend doing that, you can just get one of these:

Thought about this a bit more, try doing this first...

The cable you're using from the cb ext. speaker output to the line in on the head unit, try moving it around while transmitting, see if the talkback gets louder or softer. Also try wrapping the cable around your finger and see if it goes away.

RF could be getting through the cable, and by doing the above, you're essentially creating a choke. If the talkback decreases, try another cable or pick up a toroidal choke from any electronics store in your area or online. Look for something like this one:
