Awning mount directly to '16 Trail OEM Roof Rails?

Probably not related on this thread but I wondered if a foxwing / batwing awning could be mounted to the factory rails?

Also, does anyone know if a foxwing / batwing awning is deployed, would there be sufficient clearance above the rear cargo door once that is opened?

Unsure if a Foxwing awning can be mounted on factory rails but I do remember seeing a thread saying the hatch will not open due to the low clearance. I think the remedy was a fabricated bracket that raised the awning much higher. Another suggested remedy was to limit the hatch opening from full open but you would have to remember to tether each time the awning is deployed or risk damaging the awning/hatch.

I've been really feeling the Rhino Rack Batwing Awning but evaluating the pitfalls with the rear cargo hatch along the way. On the option side, going with an ARB Awning is my next best bet but I really like having a 270 degree shade all around.

Thanks for that, tethering the hatch was one of the ideas I was considering. I didn't think about fabricated brackets to mount them higher.

Having more coverage is nice, but I think the ARB will be a better peace of mind. The shelter tent that is compatible with the ARB 2000 or 2500 awning can sorta make up for less coverage.

the ARB awning typically does not come with any brackets, but some retailers do offer the ARB awning with brackets as a kit.

Those brackets you see are custom. Rago Fabrication has something for stock rails, too. Lower profile when installed but not as simple of a design as what you see.

and you cant really slide the factory bars around anymore.

Out of curiosity what thickness did you use?

Also if you pull on the awning do you see the rails bend or flex?

1/4” plate... like anything. If you pull hard enough you can make it flex.. but it is very sturdy.. the rails are stout too

I’m going to make an L bracket that bolts to a T bracket. Gives me in and out and up and down adjustability.

I debated on steel or aluminum though

Thanks Maadcaap- I just saw this now, I ended up going with a CVT awning and it came with these L bars that I am tying down by plumbing ties. It's not the best install but seems to work.
