Baby seat Mod and some pics !

Hello guys, here is a mod I made for my baby's seat. Since the back seats are inclined and I do some medium long trips all over I don't like when her head leans in the front as I have to check her every 5 minutes to see if she's sitting ok.

So here goes.
















I will check how it is this week-end. Going camping with the whole family.
( Wife hates camping but I put my foot down and we are all going hehe )

Here is some extras since it's getting late with a couple of beers in the belly.

Lolololollololol, you rock dude. That's good stuff right there. I can see it. My son is 18 and also on t 4 r, so we may be both inspired in (several years) to do this mod. Thanks and kudos.
 
I don't know man... With respect, that looks a little iffy to me. Wood glue holds it all together? What's wrong with a pool noodle? That's what my local fire department and car seat manufacturer recommend to achieve the appropriate angle.
Also, in the photos it looks like the car seat is on the passenger side but you're using the middle seat belt to secure it. If so, I'd definitely rethink that.

Sorry dude, I've never given negative comments about anyone's T4R mod; it feels weird. That being said, I know a hell of a lot more about car seats than I do about cars. I even have the goddamn thing in my signature, hahaha!

I have 2 kids and a nephew I carry almost every day to kindergarten, and as for pool noodle I didn't know what it was until I googled it. I use the hooks of the seat not the middle seat belt.

And I like my mod better. You can put it anywhere in the back, like I said I prefer on the passenger side where I have better access to the baby while I'm driving. Also it didn't cost me a dime since I had all I needed in the basement :)
 
I always have used folded towels, the pool noodle is a good idea.
The wood platform looks good, I would raise it up a bit more the bottom should be level in a rear facing car seat.

Sorry when it comes to child safety I'm a bit of a car seat nazi, every once in a while they have police car seat check roadblocks up here. They even go so far as you have to show the hospital your car seat and know how to use it before you can go home with your baby

Think this is a great mod. My son is 1 year old today, and also hate when his head flops forward as you described. The wood / towel is a lot more sturdy than a pool noodle. Well done and executed.
 
Baby is due to be born soon...so I'll probably do this this weekend.

I like reclining the seat back for the 3y/o so that his car seat leans back so his head stays back when he's sleeping.
 
Yes me too, I reclined the back also so when the 4 year olds sleep they are comfy :)

And yes I might add a piece of wood to make it more even, thanks.
 
how old is your kid? and how much does he/she weigh? the reason i ask is because that seat looks like it's designed for toddlers facing forward.

we are going to face our son forward in a few months when he turns 1.
 
I'm iffy on the car seat mod as well. I mean, the mods looks fine, BUT, these things are crash tested and with this mod, you are changing the angle of it in case of a crash (god-forbid). I totally understand your concern of your baby's head. We got our baby daughter a soft "donut" pillow when she was small. Does your child seat recline? Mine does a little (not all of them do).

Anyway, truck looks awesome.
 
My son's seat reclines... so I was able to set it that way...

As long as you are that platform won't slip out in the event of an accident, I guess you are good to go. I would try strapping down that platform somehow, just a thought.
 
Baby is 1 year old. I read on the seat child is too light to put it forward. And dont worry seat is clipped in the truck hinges designed for just that and it holds it tight. I lol'd also with the sneakers that's why I posted the picture ;)

Seats in different vehicles have different angles so the platform mod the OP made only corrects the car seat to a comfortable angle, nothing else. It is not any safer or un-safer because he glued the wood. He could have used folded up newspapers and accomplished the same.

OP, good job. Your only issue will be permanent dents in the seat and worn fabric. It does what you need so kudos to you.
 
Please follow the car seat manufacturers directions. The base of the seat should be level with the ground, this is how they are crash tested. The wood mod the op has done will work just fine.
If the seat is not level and reclined like some have mentioned it will put unnecessary stress in the wrong areas during a crash, your childs general safety is more important than their sleeping comfort. This is your children we are talking about, a good page to check out for those with or are about to have kids Vancouver Island Car Seat Techs
 
That was my primary thought for doing this mini mod, Safety, if she falls asleep and her head is forward on to her chest she can suffocate.

And that's what I tried to do, put it even to ground level so the seat stays how it is supposed to. I will add another piece to make it more even as a fellow member said in the replies. Thank you.
