Good point -- the lack of depth and the "rounded" picture is the issue to me. I still use it to make sure there is nobody right there when I start backing, but from then on it is turned head etc that does the job

One thing about the hitch/receiver, it will set off the 'sonar' if it is too long, causing constant 'beeping'. It is nice to have the camera so you can 'ignore' the beeping while backing up to a trailer.

ya, i would recommend trying it if you have one available, it worked out great and now i'm very comfortable w/ the camera.

my tacoma doesn't have the sensors and i never really thought about it. i don't find the sonar that helpful though, but if you were to use the hitch / receiver, you can always turn off the sonar beeping.

my sonar was actually going off the other day because we've had all the snow and now all that salt and sand had gotten onto the sensors and started to set them off, so i had to make a quick run to the car wash, haha.

Yeah but Toyota has solved that for us with the camera..........they deleted the sonar.......
 
Back up camera is on my list of options which could have been installed at the port... So it must be doable....
 
They sell aftermarket wireless cameras that attach to the license plate, then use a remote vid screen placed anywhere. I've seen them under $200 takes batteries.

Sent an e-mail to Rostra Precision asking about a kit for the 2010 T4R and this is their response:

Joaquin,

The 2010 4Runner is not pre wired for a camera system. However, we do offer our RearSight kit number 250-8055 for this vehicle.


I looked at the kit on their website and looks ok. I will still check with the dealer for the OEM one.
 
the rear view camera is great, but whomever invented it wasnt thinking about other issues imho. If your going to use it, why not have a integrated 3 view screen with a camera on the left and right rear so you can see the sides as well DUH.

IF you use the screen, unless you have eyes on the side of your head, you cant see on the right and left and can still get into an accident in a parking lot. Just my 2 cents. Someday they will have this standard. I believe this 180 view might be option on lexus gx
 
I am getting the camera installed next week. Dealer made a mistake and brought in a SR5 without the camera. They couldn't find the gray SR5 with the camera on it & would have been 6 weeks to order the vehicle. So, dealer is installing it next week.

Was worried about tearing into my new 4R already, but looks like it should be fine. I'll post pics of the install later.

I sell and install rostra products all the time, mostly to dealerships but some to retail customers as well, so far everything I have purchased from rostra over the last few years has been very well made you will not be disappointed with there products.
