Backup Camera

Where do you have your backup cam at? Put up some pics too if you have them!
(I'm looking to see where the best place to put mine is.)

If your going with the factory look the mount is just to the left of the license plate. There is a piece you can cut out to mount the camera. I did some checking because i was going to have a camera put on my 03. I opted not to do it. Didnt want to spend all the money for that. However they toyota people did tell me there is a harness already there for the 04 and above. So basically you could just get the factory cam and do not have to worry about running all the wires from the rear door to the front.

Does the pre-wire apply to 06 Sport? It is like almost impossbile to see a sport with oem navi

come on now, a back up camera, this is a 4runner, not an excursion or a dodge duelly hemi.

Spend your money on a GPS navi system or something!!!

i don't have a picture of mine.
but i just got done installing my backup camera today. it was a pain in the ass i might add. well....not really a pain.....just took forever to get the wires ran from the rear lift to the inside of the vehicle.

also....drilling the hole in the lift was a bit nervracking.


the camera is located on the lift....on the very bottom, in the middle. it is underneith the license plate.....

from there it has a very good view.

oh....and i bought the camera off of ebay. from kawamall.

they have very good products...and very very fast shipping!
(i bought it...and 2 days later i had it)

I have an 04 and don't remember seeing the existing wires when i ran it... can you verify that you did use the factory harness or you ran your own wire to the front?

When I installed my camera in my 2004 SR5 I removed the trim over the lic plate light and the inside trim. I did not see any connector. I ran the wire all the way to the head unit.

From what I was told ...the harness is there for limited 4runners with navigation. If you look at Mr. Castaluccis post on how to remove the head unit you can see there is already a wire coming off the navigation. The guy told me that for an 03 that I would need to buy another wire and factory harness to connect to the wire running to the head unit. There is a wire on 03's coming off the navigation I know. Where this wire runs too is the million dollar question.
