so liftsupportsdepot got back to me.
The upgraded struts that I bought (and that you have) item 49124W are good for up to 244 pounds
She referred me to PM3304's which will hold up to 300 pounds.
She did say that the downside is that there would be so much pressure inside the strut that if my hatch isnt loaded it might be really hard to shut or it might "spring" open aggressively.

So the new 300lb struts showed up today
Yes they take some effort to get the hatch shut.
But they are holding up the hatch with a shovel and a 2gallon rotopax (filled)
I need to test it with two 2gallon containers but I believe it will work
They were a bit of a ***** to get on as I had to do it solo and they required lifting the hatch about another inch higher than the previous struts allowed
Also they are a super tight fit on the balls but got it on after a few curses and hitting the inside of my hatch with the hammer a couple times

i have the 244 lb ones, and they work for my needs (mounting a c4 ladder), and no other attachments. It brings the hatch back to OEM specs with the added weight (easy to open and close).
I probably would have gotten the 300lb one if I had known about them. I don't think the 244lb ones would hold up to a full rotopax.
I might just get the clamps and keep them in the cargo bay. I don't plan on mounting rotopax on my vehicle full-time anyways.

Hi there! First time posting in a forum so hope I'm doing this correctly. Nice build! Do you mind telling me which rack you have? I'm scoping out the Prinsu (full or 7/8) and the T.M.T. for their low-profile specs and I'm 100% set on the c4 ladder. How do you like it? I was curious how the racks I'm looking at and C4 work together - any issues when you open the hatch? Any rubbing or overlap? Did you add any additional side steps? Thinking about 1 or 2.

Thanks for the picture. Perfect fit. I love the slim lines on these- I can't stand the bulky tubular designs. I have a Prinsu Full shipping on Thursday and I should be ordering the ladder soon. Talking to C4 about racks they confirmed for me that Prinsu is the way to go over T.M.T. You're the first person I could find with this set-up! You have me more pumped than I already was!

I just received the 6156 struts from Lift Supports Depot and one of the ends has the mount kicked at an angle. The factory struts are all straight, no angle. Is this not a problem? 6156 are same as 49124W.

What year is your 4Runner? I don't see anything that says these struts work with a 4Runner.

I have the 300lb PM3304. They support my C4 ladder and maxtrax very well and I can leave the hatch open for prolonged periods of time. I've also had a full trasharoo (in addition to the ladder and maxtrax), but it was pushing the limits of the strut. Still pretty impressive though because that's probably over 60lb. It will support an empty or near empty trasharoo no problem, but I can tell it's struggling with a full one.
I wouldn't recommend these for someone who is only putting a ladder on their hatch because it will shoot open and be difficult to close - the 244lb ones will work fine for you. But, if you plan on adding other gear like rotopax, trasharoo, maxtrax, etc., you should definitely get these.
