Best app to check gas mileage and monitor other info with Veepeak OBD

I have Veepeak Model OBDCheck BLE+ and looking for the best app to download to my phone to monitor my 99 on performance and future diagnostics. I currently have the "Car Scanner" app for diagnostics. I found "OBD Fusion" app on google and curious if anyone has use this on a 3rd gen 4runner. Its only $10 but I figured I ask around here to see what's the best app before purchasing it.

I use torque pro $5 (regular torque is free, pro has extra features). It provides view access to all parameters via odb2 and its user interface has a fair amount of user configurable guage shapes/types and sizes. Has multiple 'pages' to display groups/categories of guages, lots to see and analyze.

I think it might be called the fusion instead of pro now. At least that’s what I could find. Looking like I’ll by going with this one. Thanks.

I've been using OBD Fusion for just over a year. Has not let me down, and has way more customizability than I would ever need. The last time I used it to monitor A/F ratio's and fuel trim's to assist in diag for an O2 sensor. Definitely a keeper.

Would you know how to add the transmission temp gauge to the dashboard on the fusion? I can’t find it or any option on checking the auto transmission temp?

Yeah! I like seeing current gear. It’s really interesting to see the relationship between MPH, RPM, and Gear, and how things change with temperatures and other factors. Plus if I notice too much hunting between 3rd and 4th on an incline, I know to turn off OD and hold it in 3rd so my ATF Temps never leave the recommended operating temperature range. Makes it easier to be proactive with my ATF temps rather than reactive.

For me, the sensor is called “ATF temperature var.1”

Also, I might be wrong, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that not all 3rd gen model years report the ATF temperature?

What year is your 4runner? I have a 99 limited multi mode auto.

Man that's radical! I so wanna see that kind of info!

With that said...can you and everyone just leave the OBD2 adapter in the port without any issues? If I have mine in and give her enough has say to accelerate hard it makes the cluster freeze. When that happens I have to pull over and pull the battery cable lol

I leave my little bluetooth OBDII unit plugged in all the time, unless I know I won't be driving for a few days in a row. No issues at all. Mine doesn't draw a ton of current, just a couple LEDs and the little bluetooth UHF radio transmitter.

Your issue with a freezing cluster sounds like a symptom of some deeper electrical issue. Not sure where to start investigating that, but you might consider looking into it. I wonder if there's some loose connector somewhere that looses continuity during heavy vibration?

This is so bizarre. I looked into using OBD for tranny temps and the 99-up has the ability to show that info. I can’t seem to find it on either the Fusion or car scanner. That goes the same for the shift points

Right on! Switching that setting brought up the trans temps. Thank you!

Where does the app pull the info from or how does it connect to get that info? Do you have to connect a device to the car somewhere?

In my iPhone I use DashCommand and a Carista Bluetooth adapter.

Yeah, the app connects via Bluetooth to a wireless OBDII reader/adapter.
