Best Iphone Options

I want to be able to use my Iphone with the factory unit and have it charge at the same time. Does anyone have that setup? I have a 2001, No changer attatched. Just bought the truck about a week ago.

I also dont have a ton of cash. About $200 to spend right now so if I was going to start to upgrade the sound, what order would you reccomend.

Iphone adapter,Speakers, then HU, then amp? or HU, Speakers, etc. I cant do it all at once so what is the best way to slowly build the system?

I am searching forums right now but thought I would put it out there while I looked.

Thanks for any help!

Clarification:

2001 factory Head Unit. It has the single cd player and cassette.

What is the best (in your opinon) Iphone 3g adapter?

What is the reccomended upgrade order of stereo equipment if you have to buy it in stages?

Just joined so I see that I am asking questions that have been answered before. But if anyone has an updated answer as most of the posts I see are from over a year ago I would be interested in hearing them.

You will get the best sound quality out of a cassette adapter. I own about 7 different fm transmitters and none work. If it doesn't bother you to have the wire hanging out that is. Cheap too. As far as charging it. This is my set up. Not the best but it works great for me. Itouch is pictured. Works with my iphone too. Just used one of my many fm transmitters that didn't work. The aux cord coming out of the bottom runs to the cassette.

Thanks for the pic. I think I will try that out first. I know eventually I will be able to afford better stuff, but for now I think the cupholder stand, and cassette adapter will be fine. I also have a powerinverter I can hide under the seat and run to the iphone.

Thanks for the response!

My Sony double din unit does this. See the model in my signature...I think I got it off eBay last year for under $200. You can run the supplied wire into your glove box and leave an ipod in there for music...which is what I do....or you can use it to charge your ipod.

Don't know much about older 4R stereos, but if this would work for you I would highly recommend it.

Blitzsafe - TOY / M-LINK1 V.1

I had one "hacked" into my WRX and my wife has one in her Civic and they work great. Charges the iPhone/Pod while it plays, and has great SQ since it is hardwired into the audio input.

Also, (not sure why I can't link this) but here's the details on the install, pretty easy.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Remove radio from dash.
2. Connect the 12 pin connector from the Blitzsafe to the 12 pin port on the radio.
3. Connect the black connector to the bottom of the iPod.
4. To listen to the iPod press the CD button twice. The radio will display disc 1 track 99.
5. When the vehicle is switched off, the iPod will continue to charge to an additional 20 minutes.

Pretty much everything I could find said to do the HU first, which I agree with (and have done personally).

The reasons given included:

1) Stock HU might not be able to power aftermarket speakers properly so you will get degraded sound.

2) Stock speakers can sound pretty decent when driven by a more powerful aftermarket HU. Some have even liked the upgrade in quality they got from a HU alone that they decided to forgo aftermarket speakers altogether.

3) You get the most "use" out of the headunit. Things like integrated iPod connectivity, ability to play MP3 CDs/Flash drives/etc, navigation, satellite radio, dvd playing, etc. All things that you can benefit from right away while you wait to get the funds to complete the speaker/amp upgrades.
