I believe there are two engines, and mine is the bigger of the two. Just bought this and it's time for an oil change. I want this thing to run forever, so what do y'all recommend?
Best oil for the 2014 Limited?

What does your owners manual say? Mine specifies 0W-20, however it also has this text, "An oil with a higher viscosity (one with a higher value) may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions."
Do you regularly operate your vehicle under any of the special conditions listed in the manual? I've taken the hint to use a slightly higher viscosity such as a 5W-30 or 10W-30, especially because of trips from Phoenix to Flagstaff (elevation change 1200 to 7200 feet with grades ranging from 4-6%) at speeds of up to 85 MPH during the hottest days of summer. (Phoenix set new temperature records of 53 days above 110 and 14 days above 115 in 2020.)
If you want more details, consider searching for 1GR-FE posts written by Bryanccfshr on other forums. He lives in Texas and drives under special operating conditions. It appears he knows a lot about engine oils, history of oil specifications and history of Toyota engine design. He doesn’t use 0W-20.

Nice rig. How much was that front bumper, installed, and would it screw up the weight distribution with a 2" lift?

I was under the impression there was a 3.7 and a 4.7 liter.
None of the above. The only motor available in a 4Runner since 2010 is the 4.0 liter 1GR-FE.

The 4.7 V8 was available in older 4 Runners; but not in the 5th Gen. I have a 4.7 in a 2000 Tundra; and it's been a good reliable engine. In 21 years I've had very few issues: I've replaced 2 coil packs and that's it for problems. I did change the timing belt and water pump at 90K as suggested.
The 4.0 V6 in my 2013 4Runner has been bulletproof so far. A good reliable engine with no issues over 35K miles. Being retired, we don't drive much. Trips have been great with fair mileage as most are seeing.
I have used all recommended by Toyota fluids with no issues. I figure they know more than I do!

Nope.
Maybe you are confusing 4th gens, which there was a 4.0 V6 and a 4.7L V8
edit: flyr beat me to it.
I would stick with 0w-20. Toyotas (and the 4runner in specific) are some of the most reliable vehicles on the planet and the engineers recommendations for oil is what I will always stick with.

There was a 2.7 I-4 available in the 2wd SR5 in 2010. But it didn't sell well, and was discontinued.

Ha! Yeah, I remember that. I actually test drove one and it was the most gutless thing I had ever driven. I ended up getting a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which wasn't gutless, but was a POS that i traded in 3 years later due to electrical problems and the dealer's handling of the warranty had my wife seething. Ended up getting a T4R SR5 and haven't looked back.

0w-20, I'll only use Toyota Genuine Oil (Full Synthetic). You can use any full synthetic 0w-20 though. I don't get into the nitty gritty of it. Mostly because I don't know. Maybe that's truly why I just get Toyota brand and 0w-20. It's made for my 4runner and I don't have to think about it. Makes sense to me, at least in this case.
However, Mobil makes Toyota brand oil. So it really doesn't make too much sense to not be able to use 0w-20 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. Toyota would say because it doesn't have their additive to it that helps protect the engine and fuel economy. Idk, I wanna say bologna but maybe there's something to that.
I had to get used to changing oil every 10k miles though. I guess I'm just too paranoid. I've gone 9k since last change and everything appears normal and functioning. But I don't know what's going on in at engine "behind the scenes". I just have to hope it's ok and I check weekly for leaks. No leaks to be found. I suppose I could check the oil level but that's probably ok.
The dealership changes for free right now at 10k miles, but I don't think I would mind paying for it in between just for a peace of mind.

Yep. I was thinking about the 2010. I was looking at a few different T4Rs before I ended up with the '14 Limited.
I was also considering a Land Cruiser, Land Rover, GX460, or Grand Cherokee. Thank God I ended up with what I did. I love it.
