Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that with the Powerboost aside from the generator. I agree it's a great feature, but it's a feature only one automaker is doing. MPG in any truck is going to be mediocre. A quick search has numerous articles of testers with considerably worse mpg than what Ford claims for the powerboost too. I'm sure there's conflicting data everywhere, but a few mpg wouldn't persuade my decision. Auto 4wd is useless on a truck in my opinion, especially if mpg is important to you. It's also not the standard on most 1500 trucks.

Maybe I like the Tundra more than most or maybe I have lower expectations on new models. I think the Tundra check's the boxes it needs to. I guess my point is still that I don't feel the Tundra is behind to the powerboost enough to warrant buying the Ford over the Toyota.

A quick search would also show the Tundra hybrid also returns considerably worse mpg than claimed so the Ford still has the upper hand. Not sure why mpg was brought up in the context of A4WD. You can turn it off lol.

The new Tundra/Sequoia competes well in the context of ~2018 but the competition has really outpaced it already. The competition has better off-road offerings, better hybrid offerings, better interior offerings. You really have to be a Toyota fan first and foremost if choosing the Tundra over the competition. Although nothing wrong with that though, many of us including myself buy Toyotas for their reliability more so than their capability.

Back to 4Runners. The new Sequoia doesn't bode well for the 6th gen. The Sequoia lost its rear window and, while platform sharing has many benefits, its packaging was compromised and the battery takes up an enormous amount of cargo room. Toyota also made the dumb decision where the 3rd row isn't removable to protect the battery.

I'm really hoping the 6th gen is a bit more thoughtful in its design. It makes sense for Toyota to rush the Tundra given its sales are pretty abysmal but the 4Runner has been a great success here in the US. Here's to hoping they don't drop the ball with it.

From Scout's site: "By combining an entrepreneurial spirit with the backing of the Volkswagen Group, Scout Motors will unveil its first prototypes in 2023 and begin production in 2026."

If Scout nails the engineering (specifically finds a way to eek out a legitimate 300+ miles on a full charge), the vehicles might be pretty interesting as offroad alternatives to petrol/diesel-powered rigs. Anyone remember the original VW Toureg and Porsche Cayenne? They were offroad beasts. They were also expensive, and one could assume the Scouts will be as well.

All that said: I'm still looking forward to the 6th Gen T4R.

I think that "begin production in 2026" means a 2027 model year.

I have as much faith in that as the 2022 6th gen 4Runner (23, 24, 25, etc.) or the many other new introductions that have slipped from numerous manufacturers.

Oh agreed, I'm sure it'll change. Dates are changing all the time - I figured out a way to see the weekly updates in addition to the monthly master sheet.

I had a 2010 Touareg TDI. It was awesome and if VW were to bring it back I would buy it tomorrow.
What I had read is that VW intends to make the Scouts affordable - so I would be shocked if we see Rivian level pricing. I had read starting around 50k.

Excluding an accident that totaled the Touareg, if it was awesome, why don't you still have it? A 2010 is not that old of a vehicle.

They bought it back b/c of the diesel settlement. It basically bought me a new 4Runner. It was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up.

Well a Toyota executive has put to rest the speculation about the new Land Cruiser, looks like it is all but confirmed according to Motor Trend.

So it's certainly not confirmed, but it's a much stronger answer than we were expecting. Then again, even last year's Land Cruiser departure announcement came with a wink, with Toyota encouraging "loyal enthusiasts and intrepid adventurers to stay tuned for future developments."

However, it sounds like we should be looking beyond the current J300 series Land Cruiser to whatever the next generation model may look like, which will almost certainly need to be electrified, either hybrid or full battery-electric. Toyota's EV plans are reportedly in flux with the automaker devoting more resources to expedite its EV offerings, though no specific models have been teased, and the existing EV concepts may no longer be on the cards. Still, Hollis' comment is a promising start to whatever's next, and it sounds like still they have some confident ideas for the next Land Cruiser, at the very least."

I'm conflicted on it. I seriously doubt I would have kept it for 13 years so at this point I would have something different and would have had to do it during the shitshow and price gouging of the pandemic.
But, lord I miss that engine every time I go to the mountains. It was all around a more comfortable vehicle than the 4R and honestly, aside from doing Moab and long term reliability, it was a better vehicle than the 4R.

FTR I have no illusions that a touareg would have made it to 300k - that said I was at less than 100k when I traded it in and I'm only at 35k on my 4R now, I just don't drive much b/c I work from home.

He thinks the redesigned Land Cruiser Prado will be the Land Cruiser that is rumoured to be brought to Canada and the US. Says it will fall in between the Sequoia and 4R in pricing with the detuned 3.44 tt from the SR Tundra.

I'm guessing $57,000 in the US and $69,500 in Canada. He's predicting we will see it arrive this time next year. We will get a decent look at it about 6 months earlier when it's released in Japan first.

This makes the most sense for a conservative minded Toyota IMO. I'm still a little concerned with the twin turbo set up. If I had to choose between a redesigned LC Prado at $70,000 Canadian vs the last model year 4.0 4R TRD Off-Road for $55,000 Canadian I would have a hard time.

Has anyone driven the Prado? Would the current gen Prado be worth the extra money over a 4R if it's coming with the 3.44 twin turbo?

The Land Cruiser Prado is the Lexus GX. Do a google search and it won't take long to verify this. There are a number of people on t4r.org that own one.

I knew the GX and Prado were similar but they have different engines and thought it was primarily the frame and some parts they shared. I suppose with a complete redesign the current Prado isn't a good comparison. Hopefully it's released a year before the 6th gen 4R.

This is big news. All we've had so far was floaty rumors but actual acknowledgement from a Toyota VP helps cement these rumors.

It's curious that he mentions designs (plural). Suggesting he's seen multiple iterative and possible designs, some that we have not seen already. To me this suggests he's referring to the upcoming GX/Prado redesign although it could hint as a mild refresh of the J300.

In any case, I think I may call up my dealer to put down a deposit for this mysterious land cruiser. With the 6th gen 4Runner continually delayed, this Land Cruiser may hit dealer lots before it.

There is no way Toyota pulls a General Motors and has the Prado in the US as both the Lexus GX and the new LC. I did not originate the Land Cruiser news, it was [MENTION=166416]Carmaker1[/MENTION] last year, you know, the guy with a good track record.

Motor Trend and a Toyota exec are not what I would call click bait. David of Automotive Press youtube channel, now that is clickbait.
