Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

The LC and 4Runner will almost certainly share a bare chassis. So it's just a matter of body, drive train, and suspension variation and all of those are probably going to be pretty close to each other. I could see a surprise short wheel based LC version or something like that we aren't expecting. And I think the GX roofline shows either a removeable panel like a T top, or something like a panoramic roof line. So it's still possible it'll have something like that. It could also have a more robust roof structure that is built for heavy loads, or a suspension setup with significantly higher load capacity. There's still a lot of ways to make it unique that we might not consider until it's released. If it looks like the GX but with LC70 front clip - I think it'll be pretty popular.

The FJ, 4R, GX, Prado have always shared the same bones so seriously doubt that will change. What’s left is the body, engine choices, options, etc. I think they still outsource the FJ body for the AU market but doubt they would do so for anything wearing the iconic LC badge. Institutionally the Land Cruiser brand is part of their soul so expect them to be more conservative compared to whatever they may ‘try’ elsewhere.

I expect whatever it is (if it’s anything at all) to roll off the same production line, which would limit the universe of options.

Of course it’s all just speculation but it’s nice that there’s even something to speculate about after so many years of meh!

The roof looks like it has a removable panel. You can see the frame lines on the outside of it. If you zoom in above the driver's side on the roof there 3 distinct things happening there with the roof. They aren't well lined up. The outside large black piece shows a very noticeable break in the roof line. Definitely some sort of removable roof. The roof racks are very tall, maybe it's a targa roof panel that slides back and stays under the high roof rails to allow Prinsu style racks to be mounted.
So far it looks amazing. I'm betting the off-road version of the LC250 will be even better.

Edit: then I go over to Tundras.com and see 2023 Tundra engines failing and needing a completely new engine at 19000 miles and I worry these GX/LC?4R/Tacos will have the same issues.

Differentiating the 4R and GX seems obvious enough but adding the LC (if it’s inline with the current Prado) is where it doesn’t seem as obvious.

Where do you see the same size LC fitting in now that the GX does appear to get rid of the emasculating body skirts?

The GX already is a rebadged Prado with different body panels.

There must be something else the Land Cruiser is addressing.

Different body panels and I thought a WAY nicer interior than most of what is offered in the Prado away from the US.

Part of me thinks the GX is going to diverge from the Prado for this new generation. We shall see.

Will there be overlap? Absolutely. Will it cause comparison anomalies due to the vehicles being on different refresh cycles? Sure. Will Toyota care? Probably not.

The main difference will be that the GX is well insulated and the Toyotas sound like you're driving a traktor trailer with the windows down.

Reminds me of oddities, such as:

The 2010-2015 Tacoma never receiving the Dual-VVTI higher-horsepower engine that the 2010 4Runner received

The 2016-2023 4Runner never receiving the Tacoma's 3.5L V6 and 6AT powertrain (...thank goodness)

The 2003-2004 Tacoma soldiering on with the less powerful 3.4L V6 when the 2003-2004 4Runner was sitting on a shiny new powerful 4.0L V6 and a 4.7L V8.

Sorry for poor quality. I'm screenshotting off the leaked video. Couple things to notice, some climate control features are now baked into the touchscreen (heated and ventilated seats). The license plate frame reads "JGK 342" instead of the earlier released teasers that read "GDR 734". Perhaps the GX550 is pushing 342 horsepower?

I think it looks great! There's two clear trims in the video. Possibly one is hybrid other not and/or luxury vs offroad trims. Video doesn't show the roof in enough detail to see if there's any panels there or anything special. Looks like 32ish tires - so leaves the offroad hardcore stuff to the Toyota side of the house. Overall though, it's a big win IMO.

From a distance - it looks very 4Runner to me.

That's a good guess too. For marketing purposes Toyota and Lexus have always advertised the engine as a 3.5L though so I'm not sure if they would switch like that.

The only thing I don't like is the amount of painted area below the headlights, getting that from the pic over at Ih8mud. Might look better in a different colour. That gold seems a lot brighter than the teaser images.

I grabbed a screen shot earlier, but I think it's the same one that was taken down. It was only about 90 seconds of a early 50's couple looking at a travel journal and then going for a new adventure to see a lighthouse and a few city events mashed together. Pretty cringeworthy as far as the non-car stuff. But it has a silver GX with no roof rack and no black/silver body cladding and the tan colored one with the offroad trim. No details at all on drivetrain or offroad stuff other than it can drive on fire roads.

It doesn't show any clips of the roof close enough for any detail and no interior shots include any shots of the roof. The only thing I could tell is that the black roof on the tan GX in the video is only black on the side panels outside of the roof rack bars down to the top of the windows. The one quick shot of the roof is grainy, but the actual roof panel between the rails one in the video is fully body color. Whereas in the teaser pic of the tan one - the roof is clearly black between the rails. So that's odd. Not sure what to make of it.

I think it's an optional power targa roof that pops up and rolls back. If it's removeable it must be able to fit flat in the cargo area. Should be interesting. 2.5 hours to go.

What a challenge it must be trying to launch these vehicles…managing embargoes and hoping nothing leaks.

I’m amazed that they usually keep things relatively contained pretty close to the end of the embargo.

Can’t wait to see the higher res press photos in a few hours.

Just finished watching both of them (this and the TX one).

Interestingly enough, I'm still not sure how much I love the GX styling after seeing the video. It's definitely better looking than the current one and they got their spindle grill under control in the design, but I see a bit too much Sequoia in it for my liking. Maybe it will grow on me. I'm very curious to see more on the interior and features at this point. I'm also curious to see if they go up market with pricing on these as the current trucks can barely break $70K (while a Sequoia can touch north of $80K).

The TX meanwhile is really interesting and I think looks WAY better and nicer than the Grand Highlander. Considering I was already thinking I'd be in a high trim Grand if I ever considered getting one; I'm really interested in this vehicle. It's going to be interesting also to see where they position these in price given there is a lot of very expensive competition in this class (especially if you consider German vehicles like the X7 and Mercedes GLS).
