Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

Looks like AutoVehicleForecast has closed the loophole to view their content. I can no longer see the Monthly master sheets, monthly news brief, or weekly updates.

I'm not surprised they closed it - it was a pretty dumb way they had it set up.

Sadly that means my insights are gone and I won't be able to see if the 4Runner production schedule changes at all.

Part of me is hoping they're just doing maintenance or something, but I don't think that's the case. I will update if I find it all again.

TFl has some detailed insider info on the next gen 2024 Tacoma powertrain and trim levels in their latest video. We should be able to safely assume that will be the same as the 6th gen 4Runner.

I hope and think they would put the Hybrid Max in the next gen 4runner ! No telling when though as they keep selling them as is!
I test drove a Tundra with it and had loads of power.

The video was interesting. I had a hard time getting over the concept of a turbo 4 LC. That sounds like a silly mistake.

I actually found the comments section below fascinating.

They also confirmed by their source that the 4Runner will not be redesigned until the 2025 MY.

Land Cruiser Prado for the US/Canada
2.4 turbo hybrid only in the Prado
3 trim levels, most likely Trail Hunter as top trim on LC/Taco/4runner
Prado arriving as a 2024 model in 2023.

Tacoma getting 2 engines. 2.4 turbo 265 HP, 309 torque and 2.4 turbo hybrid. Roughly 340 HP, 400 f/lb torque. Most likely what the 4Runner will get.

I wonder if the GX550 will get the same engine options here as the US Prado or if they will beef it up with the Sequoia Powertrain.

At least we should be able to see and hopefully test drive the LC and Tacoma to get a feel for what the '25 4Runner will be like before they stop selling the 5th gen 4R.

Yeah...until I saw that video, I was leaning towards cancelling my depost for the '23 ORP to see what the Land Crusier would look like. However, I wouldn't buy a LC with a inline 4 turbo no matter what else it had going for it.

If the Prado, which is a GX, gets a 4 banger, what will the redesigned GX get? They couldn't drop it from an 8 to a 4 in one generation, could they? Yikes. That would kill sales like a breakout of the plague.

I don't understand what the point of a 4Runner, a Prado, and a GX in the same market is. How will they be differentiated?
Will the 4R become more of a family SUV? Or is that the Prado and the 4Runner becomes a true offroad competitor to the Wrangler/Bronco?

So, this may sound silly but I'm trying to figure out which segment Toyota is targeting with each vehicle.

If the Rav4 goes directly against the Cherokee/Escape
If the Land Cruiser goes directly against the Wrangler/Bronco
If the Highlander goes directly against the Grand Cherokee/Explorer
If the Sequoia goes directly against the Wagoneer/Expedition

What is the 6th gen 4Runner for?

Same as the Land Cruiser but the Land Cruiser is way more expensive than the 4Runner and isn’t broadly available in the states

If you look at how many variants of the Bronco and Jeep there are and the power the top ones are putting out Toyota has no real answer for these.

If the next gen LC Prado gets a hybrid 340hp/400torque that isn't even good enough to compete against the hemi Jeep or Bronco Raptor. Then there's the Raptor R coming!

The 4Runner will compete against the base to mid level Jeep and Broncos.

The LC against the mid to upper end Jeep and Bronco.

The GX550 will probably come with the same two engines as the Tundra. This would allow it to be a semi luxury off road SUV with almost 600 pounds of torque.

I am not crazy about the new turbo hybrid stuff but if it's made in Japan and has the LC name it should be more reliable than the hybrid stuff they are making in NA. I would prefer this approach than having 11 different variants of the 4Runner.

Will be interesting to see the price of this hybrid only LC and the hybrid Tacoma, might be too much for me this close to retirement. Could be a great camping vehicle. No need for dual batteries or Jackeries and with a hybrid you can set the AC to whatever you like and it will keep you cool all night if you camp inside the vehicle.

I think the new Land Cruiser for the USA will slot between the 4R and Sequoia and be bigger than a Prado. No reason to sell Prado and 4Runner together. And in markets where both are currently sold together - the 4Runner is more expensive than the Prado for similar trims. So it would be an odd flip for the USA market to then position the Prado above the 4Runner. So I think we may see an LC300 variant in a more base model form for the USA. To me that's the only thing that really makes any sense. The platform is already going to be shared between the 4R, Sequoia, LC300, (and the LC70). If the 4R grows at all - it'll be right at the same 112" wheelbase as the LC300. Why not put a Land Cruiser 300 GXL body on it and charge $10k more?

What makes a lot more sense to me - if I were in Toyota's marketing team - I'd either bring a legit LC70, or in the alternative there's a big missing segment in Toyota's lineup below the 4R. Make a 108" wheel base SUV on the GA-F platform but cut 6 inches off both ends of a 4Runner to massively improve angles and make room for 37s in a trail hunter trim. Style it like an LC70, maybe even share sheet metal like the LC100/LC105. And put LC300 9.5/9" diffs and HD steering components under it. It could be darn near a parts bin vehicle tailored for the American market. And go way down market in base form. Like the Bronco/Wrangler/FJ cruiser were. Start it at $35k.

Not sure if you saw the previous page but TFL is saying their source in Toyota is saying its the next gen Prado that we are getting in hybrid only form. Toyota is hoping to sell 30,000 in the US. Price wise it will be more than a 4Runner or they will sell 300,000 if it's cheaper than a base model SR5. The US market is so starved for an affordable LC they will be hard to get IMO.

Rumors that the Land Cruiser will come with a 2.4T is pretty disappointing. I'd be okay with the 2.4T in a 4Runner but the Land Cruiser should come with a premium powertrain.

26 months lol but thats good for Toyota. Why change the 4Runner when they sell everyone they make now.

CarMaker: “Bloomfield Hills, MI” LOL

When I lived in Michigan and worked at Ford many people aspired to live in West Bloomfield. They would walk around with their noses in the air and talk about it like it was better than Paris or Madrid or London even though most havenÂ’t been to any of those places. When those snotty and self important types were finally able to over extend themselves enough to buy a place there both husband and wife had to work, they had to drive the same pos cars for years, have paper stick on shades in the house and old or no furniture for the same amount of time. The economy would take a dive, Ford would broom a bunch of white collar employees and boom they would loose the house. Thats funny.

Wow, I keep forgetting you worked for Ford too! Well, to be honest, I kind of didn't log in for a very long time, because I wanted give a respectful response that wouldn't come across the wrong way and also got very busy over the past several months, I became very lazy with posting online about almost anything and just didn't remember.

I get what you're saying and I initially didn't move to Bloomfield Hills, when I joined Ford. I lived in Grosse Pointe previously and before that, outside of Michigan. It's not obvious to many folks who know of me a little bit, but I'm not exactly self made.

It is because of my family and much of what I do have in terms of means, is mostly from family. I am an American by naturalization, so I come from a different (dual) culture. It is what it is honestly, but I am definitely not going beyond my means.

I won't get into too many specifics, but I've been very fortunate for some 2.5 decades, after significant restitution from various past military dictatorships, begrudgingly paid back a vast sum to my father's large family, after a politician uncle became chief advisor to a newly elected civilian president under the newly restored democracy, following a murderous regime and forced the issue.

My father carefully invested his share in the right places (narrowly avoiding dotcom burst) and expanded his medical practice into multiple (plus more), so the rest was history. Before that, I was born into a transitional period well before this, in between "the good times" on both ends, in spite of my family's deep background. I wasn't exactly born with a silver spoon due to temporary/changing circumstances, even if my father was. The spoon came later in childhood, with that restitution and "restored glory".

My ability to live in Bloomfield Hills. Manhattan, London, or decent areas of the Midlands in England the past 15 years, has never been a looming concern over me, except when it concerns the type of neighbors I'll have.

Particularly if I am putting myself at risk of unwelcome scrutiny, from difficult busybodies who don't expect my kind in their neighborhood. I was initially put off by Bloomfield Hills outside of Detroit due to demography, until some friends convinced us to build a new house there, which we did recently. I initially was even afraid of being unwelcome outside of Detroit city limits, from my own past fears.

I was also cynical about living in Michigan altogether, after being only 2 hours by car from London at JLR and having plenty to do in Birmingham and Coventry on average. It's not bad at all and people are too hard on Detroit/Michigan for no good reason. So many people made it seem like it was the most boring place to live and visiting mostly during the old winter NAIAS didn't help to dispel that.

It's a different place in the summer. Watch your back and you won't have problems. I had worse problems in some other cities I won't even mention, that made me rethink some existing arrangements of mine a decade ago.

Good grief, you're such a dick.

Ah, no hard feelings. I doubt he was directly referring to me, because I know I am not those people whom he described. But I know exactly what he's talking about and believe me, I can be a victim of them too on what I call "casual stranger" days, when on foot.

Folks seeing me dressed in simple stuff, walking around the neighborhood, often tend to make assumptions based on their prejudices. Well, little do they know...it's either so funny at times or so depressingly tired, to experiment with folks judging a book by its cover and then getting the jump on them with the truth.

Ive spent a lifetime being financially responsible. There have been many sacrifices I have made. I retired in my 50's from the corporate bullshit and started my own business. I have little sympathy for people who live beyond their means, run up debt and get themselves in trouble.

What made it worse was the West Bloomfielder's I new always behaved like their shit was good to eat. When they would get knocked off their high horses I was like "You had it coming". lol

Well, yeah I can see that. There are some not very nice folks up "here" (I'm currently out of town). Very belated reply from me, but I did see your perspective.

I heard such horror stories and settled into Grosse Pointe after finding another industry job, which happened to be after I left JLR. I met a few stodgy, patrician types just the same over there. I changed my mind for my own reasons and relocated up to BH. You've worked hard all of your life, to achieve an honest and rewarding living into a decent retirement and have unfortunately encountered such smug types in your wake.

However, I am happy to say that I know myself and what I am not. I am not a self-made man like yourself unfortunately (I try to mask that often), but my means to live in Bloomfield Hills or particularly anywhere as such, are not beyond what I can actually sustain. Between my partner and I, our deeper backgrounds provided the foundation for certain decision making. Specifically my own family over theirs in fact. Smart investing helps maintain that too.

Working at Ford definitely does not pay for much of our lifestyle on a global level, whereas my other financial interests do as I mentioned above. I work in this capacity and previous others, because of my passion for automobiles since birth and my realism, that my childhood dream to start my own multi-billion dollar car company (which is where "Carmaker1" came from as a kid), is too much a sacrifice for me personally at this age and maybe better served for later on in life. Not to mention virtually impossible.

Better to get my foot in the door, as I did at Toyota and JLR, than go around asking investors to pour billions into an unproven venture too soon. After so many years of studying, I just want to rest. Leisure is very boring at times, as I learned after leaving JLR years ago and "exploring". A job is worthwhile, even if you don't need the money from it.

I work very hard at what I do, even if compensation from it is a drop in the bucket to what I actually do sustain myself on ultimately. I consider myself to have been raised with manners and compassion, not like many people that I encounter, in many of these well regarded enclaves I have lived in across the UK and USA and especially in corporate workspaces. I'm far from as successful as my parents at the moment, but I hope to surpass them one day in middle age. A tall order at my level currently, in terms of self-sufficiency.

Sorry for the length, in terms of TL;DR. This isn't a passive aggressive post, as I didn't take it that way from you towards me, but those "types" as you said. Life was very different for my family in the early-mid-90s, before everything got way better "again". One thing I had to make very clear, is that I am far from one those of new money types. Only similarities I share with such people, are my extreme passion for various automobiles and my deep focus on that in my free time. (I despise tacky influencers.)

Otherwise I would've gone into politics or medicine like the rest of my folks. I like cars too much, to do either. So here I am. That says more than enough about who I am and who I am not I'd think.

Carmaker1 always good to get your insight on what's happening behind the scenes for the 4runner.

Is there any chance the delay is specifically related to a powertrain (phev, ev, hev) and the vehicle will be released earlier than 26 months? Just wishful thinking on my part.

I look forward to learning more about the product line. Really hoping for more phevs across the lineup.

According to my source, it definitely was related to that. Not competition, but I can see newer posts really clued in on that fast. You guys are impressive, compared the general public out there. Not surprising I guess, since it takes a lot to own a 4Runner nowadays on some level.

Let's keep this thread civil.

Anymore name calling and you're all being sent to bed without dinner.

Haha, well I imagine he was referring to all the cold folks full of themselves up in Northern Greater Detroit enclaves.

That's a pretty awesome document.

If I remember correctly from what was posted earlier, the 4Runner might be like the NX (and RAV4 before it) where it starts production in Japan and later moves to North America. But, you're right, maybe that changed? Those production dates are way out for some of those, so no reason to omit the 4Runner, even if it starts out in Japan.

Note the bZ5X to be produced in Georgetown next year -- 5 means larger than the RAV4-sized bZ4X, and the X is a crossover. I guess that's the Grand Highlander/TX-sized EV that Toyota showed last December?

With SOP in September 2023, it might actually beat the bZ4X returning to production (being facetious, but Toyota just announced the bZ4X production is suspended for another month -- through August. Getting less likely my bZ4X will beat the reduction in the Federal EV tax credit on Oct 1.)

Excellent effort, as although much of that chart is inconsistent with some Toyota timetables, it has a strong element of truth to it anyway and this is the kind of sleuthing I love too see in the forums. This is what people need to be doing, not relying on vloggers and news sites to feed them info. I am impressed with so much discussion I see here, because this is what needs to be happening all over and shared only amongst each other, to protect Toyota's secrets, while only you and a few know what they're doing.

Just had to go back and reread to figure out why it was missing. Carmaker1 said Toyota removed the program code from every 3rd party database, and well, what do you know? The document I posted is a 3rd party database.

Yes and no, because I think some of this information is managed in a clever fashion. I was told 930B was the program code, but I am also seeing 930D as a new suffix. This is very similar to some newer Toyota vehicles in development, such as the Camry (380D), Grand Highlander (200D) Lexus TX (220D) which concerns me about the accuracy of my own information then.

For certain some of this stuff is either outdated or mixed up. But it's a good foundation to build on, with something this detailed. I was told the real deal on the 930B vs 930D, but I'm still a bit lost anyway. Stuff is being mixed up.

Based on what Carmaker1 is saying.. Are we to intelligently deduce that 6th Gen 4R wont be announced until 2024 as potentially a 2025MY? I also assume Toyota will announce the next gen Tacoma first

Yes, this is true. I'm sure you know this now, but yes it's true.

No offense to carmaker1, but I think the intelligent deduction would be that we cannot not assume anything at this time.

Yeah, that is true too. But there are some known quantities regarding the next 4Runner.

I think he was saying, and it holds water, Toyota will redesign and release the taco first since it outsells the 4R and is feeling the competition breathing down it's neck. I would not be surprised if the 4R is revealed in the summer of '24 and arrives as a 2025 MY. It is reaching lengendary status as a LandCruiser JR model so I think Toyota will be able to stretch it out for an extra year in '24. It may still land in a year as a '24 reveal.

This is so dead accurate, I can't say anything else, but co-sign this. I didn't originate this info, but this comes from someone working on the 4Runner at the moment. He says it will reach a final point of development in January 2024, meaning Job 1 is now July 2024 for September 2024 launch.

I bet people waiting on the 6th gen will be shocking by a large price increase as well.

Well, I am not sure how Toyota intends to market this vehicle alongside the new Land Cruiser as you know to be coming now. It will be more expensive, but is there a price ceiling due to some impending models running parallel or directly above it?

Any idea when the 6th Gen will be out?

I'm thinking late summer of 2023.

I'm sure you know now, that is no longer true and I'm not sure it ever was. The truck went from Fall 2021 as a 2022 (scheduled in 2017-18) to Fall 2022 as a 2023 (in mid-2019), then spring 2024 as a 2024 model (in early 2021), now a 2025 model in September 2024 (effective Q2 2022).

I will say October-November 2024 as a 2025 MY. Made in Mexico.
There's an element of truth to that, but you probably know that now...
Two full years from now? IMO, thatÂ’s the absolute latest, worst case.

Sadly, yeah it sucks and I'm quickly losing interest. I'm not getting any younger. But it's absolutely true.

I can't see the Tacoma and 4Runner being redesigned in the same MY. Tacoma will go first but you never know.

You are so on point. This was the question I asked myself back in late 2019 into February 2020. Eventually I pieced it all together from different sources, the Tacoma had shifted to the 2024 MY and 4Runner was MY 2023. The 4Runner fell back 18 months, behind the Tacoma in 2021 and the Tacoma got delayed some 4 months into early 2024. 4Runner keeps suffering delays, but I think the newest one is related to the Land Cruiser nameplate returning.

I thought it was widely believed that the 'Runner will come before the Taco as the Gen 5 'Runner design dates all the way back to 2009.

I may be wrong, however.

This was the plan, originally that is. In 2014, the Tacoma had a future and the 4Runner didn't. Nor did Sequoia. By January 1, 2016, Toyota had a finalized design for the 2018 Sequoia and updates to the 4Runner were now being considered. By the end of 2017, a next generation of all 3 was in planning.

By January 2019, the next generation Sequoia was definitive, while the remaining two were still in the oven. By the end of 2020, they were now both definitive and entering prototyping phases, somewhat 1 year later to market that planned previously. Then once again, the 4Runner was pushed back in early 2021, while Tacoma only suffered a 4-month delay months after that in Q3 2021.

Toyota has held more firm on the launch of the 2024 Tacoma, than the 4Runner. That's just the truth unfortunately.

Based on the two links above,

First link says, 920B (4th Gen Tacoma) will start production in December 2023. Second link says production starts August 2023. I'd guess that's 2024MY? Might announce at 2023 Chicago Auto Show?
610L(2) (6th Gen 4Runner) will start production in January 2024. I'd guess 2024MY as well? I don't think that'd get announced at the 2023 CAS, Maybe the Texas State Fair in September 2023?

Maybe both the Tacoma and 4Runner will be announced at the Texas State Fair?

This August 2023 date was once accurate information on the Tacoma during July 2019 to at latest September 2021. It has since been delayed to December 2023 Job 1, which I have mentioned for about 1 year. I respect this, because it has an element of truth to it and provides some sort of insight to non-Toyota personnel.

The 4Runner info is just outdated unfortunately, but I think you've caught this yourself per your newer posts.

I've heard rumors/speculation that the Gen 6 4Runner will be tasked with (partially) filling the shoes of the now-defunct North American Land Cruiser.

Is there any merit to this?

It's not true, but I would've believed it myself once. According to Gecko, it will be true to form as he said back in 2018 and 2019. Everything he's said has held up and anything that hasn't, isn't his fault.

I doubt it. That would be the job of the Lexus LX and maybe the upper trims of the Sequoia.

Yes, but I can see where that would come into play in some instances.

That seems to be the job of the LX600. Granted, theyÂ’re all sharing the same TNGA-F platform so the next 4Runners relation to the Land Cruiser is probably more than any previous generation from that standpoint. TheyÂ’ve always been on a similar platform though.

I'm not sure about that? Going forward with TNGA-F yes, but with 100 and 200-Series, not so much, at least against N180, N210, and current N280 (aka 610L). This should be the case with 300 against N310/N350

Agreed I think itÂ’s more telling, especially with the two factors of its removal (at least that were disclosed to us) being:

1) aluminum tailgate
2) didnÂ’t fit in with the design CALTY wanted.

I think Tundra and 4Runner owners enjoy it more than the Sequoia owners, but IÂ’ve never read Sequoia forums lol.

Sweers said they kept it in the Tundra since people love it.

Who knows whatÂ’ll happen lol. Gotta keep waiting sadly

Prior to the 2020 Sequoia TRD Pro bringing in the younger crowd, very few millennials and younger Xers bought them at all, BRAND NEW that is. The 2018 MY+ might have made some gains in that area, but most of the others probably didn't care much as you said, except a vocal few with secondhand examples. Not so much for the 4Runner, that gets a bigger contingent of Xers, XYers, and Millennials buying, as well as some Gen Z (shocking!).

I get very annoyed that David Chao of AP keeps referring to Toyota likely getting rid of it in the next 4Runner, with no proof of any sort on his end outside of the 2023 Sequoia. It's just unsubstantiated speculation on his part, as filler content to drive views. Like a charlatan prosperity preacher vs the less is more and straight to the point priest.

Toyota has trade marked "Land Cruiser and variants" for 2024MY.

There was a big thread on mud about it. LC and "Trail Hunter" both were listed as new MY trademarks.

ETA: I'd be thrilled if we got the new Prado as the 6th gen as long as the MTS and locker are there like in AU.

Wow, that's interesting. I feel like I need to discuss things Land Cruiser elsewhere...

I thought the Lexus GX is the Land Cruiser Prado...

I wonder how true that is after 2023? The GX is definitely going niche even more, but I am not sure about the Prado?

Since the 4th gen, the 4Runner has shared the GX/Prado platform. Given everything moving to TNGA-F, the resemblance should continue. I'm guessing with the modularity of the F platform it would be the Tacoma, 4Runner, Hilux, Prado all being the "smaller" variant of the F platform; whereas the Sequoia, Tundra, Land Cruiser, and LX 600 are all on the "bigger" variant.

Dead accurate, but is Toyota branching off an additional version of the Land Cruiser nameplate, that will be marketed as both that and the GX 550/550h as hardcore offroaders, while Prado remains evolutionary and 4Runner a distant cousin of the Prado as currently?

OK. I was responding to Finslayer83's wish to get the Prado as the 6th gen. That won't happen since the Prado is already sold in the US under the Lexus name.

I do agree that the 4Runner will continue to be a less expensive cousin of the GX thanks to the common platform.

Yes, but the upcoming Land Cruiser is something more along the lines of the next GX, yet the 4Runner and Prado might just the same product on a newer frame. There is more to discuss on this for me.

Steven Welch, a Toyota salesman from Nashville and Youtuber, is saying the 4Runner is delayed until 2025.

Toyota major changes coming - YouTube

He was the first person on YouTube to show all of the Tundra options and pricing last year. I'm surprised he kept his job since he scooped everyone. He is saying this info comes from things he knows so it appears he is spilling the beans so to speak.
Says the Tacoma will keep the 3.5 V6 add the 2.5 hybrid with increased power and then third option will be full electric.
4Runner will get 2.4 turbo plus hybrid and the Land Cruiser is coming back to the US next fall as a 2024 MY. He says this is the main reason for delaying the 4Runner until 2025, Toyota doesn't want to have both of those competing in anyway.
The new Toyota truck that will compete with the Maverick will be built on the Rav4 chasis.

The info is credible, but I do question the full electric Tacoma, since another source dispelled it and mentioned 2TR I4 as the base Tacoma. The Land Cruiser rumor, SHOCKINGLY matches what Gecko first keyed me into back in 2019 privately. Gecko's insight is dead accurate to this day, because I lost confidence in it when I learned about the GX 550 taking that position, not realizing my prediction of MY 2024/25 completed the puzzle on what he told me in 2019.

I can only be a firsthand source, if I am part of the organization itself, but some folks refuse to accept that and would rather express discontent towards me. Gecko knows a hell of a lot more about the GX 550 than I do, that's for sure. My source on things 4Runner, fumbled some stuff regarding TX vs GX and I apologize to anyone if I caused any confusion.

I'm surprised Toyota is already underway with a TNGA-K unibody pickup, but not surprised since it was mentioned earlier. Please don't tell this is just like the Land Cruiser rumor in 2019 and it won't appear for 4 more years just the same. This should be coming for MY 2024-25 for Toyota's sake.

lol, I agree having the last MY of the generation would be cool. I waited for the '23 (assuming it was the last of its kind) for that very reason. I don't think the head unit would be in play but dual climate control for lower trims? JBL 15 speaker as an option for lower trims? Things that already exist but are trim specific...

If it were actually confirmed that MY24 was still a 5th gen, I would consider cancelling my order and waiting until next summer.

It definitely is a 2025 model, get a 2024 if you want.

Interesting... the video has been removed from YouTube. Perhaps he mentioned something he wasn't supposed to. It was sort of a wink-wink, nudge-nudge sort of thing. 2024 Land Cruiser coming in the fall of 2023 was a sure thing, 4runner postponed until 2025 mainly because of the LC300 coming and the '24 Tacoma keeping the 3.5 V6 and getting the Highlander's hybrid engine with an increase in horsepower were the three big things. Like I said, I remember him last year showing print outs for every Tundra model with price at least a week before anyone else reported it.
I have said for a while the 6th gen 4Runner won't come out until 2025. I think it will be built in Mexico and share the same engine and transmission as the Tacoma but if this guy is right I doubt Toyota would put the 2.4T in the 4R in the same factory that Tacos get a 3.5 and 2.5 hybrid.

I have no idea what they are doing in some respects, but stranger things have happened. Tacoma engine lineup has been identified, but 4Runner not entirely. It is definitely MY 2025, not 2024. You all have discovered this on your own of course, which is great. The information he provided you is dead accurate, but is missing a few things apparently. The 2TR-FE 2.7L I4 is also on deck for 2024.

You and balong are very good at research, as nimby and much more of you lately. A+++++

I'm very curious about the tacoma getting the 2.5 hybrid. That powertrain generally is designed to maximize MPG, but it sacrifices towing and off-road capabilities. Now if they use the prime powertrain with the 2.5 that would be cool.

I also wonder if the 3.5 is only sticking around for manual trims. I can't imagine it wouldn't transition to the 2.4T in the automatic tims

EDIT: Just thought about it and my best guess is the Tacoma getting the Tundra's detuned 3.5 which is found in the SR trims

The Tacoma isn't getting the V35A apparently like I had been told, as it was tested for some time, but ultimately Hybrid Max is the top offering. That theory of yours is very interesting, but we'll see what happens with RC62F in the 2GR-FKS.

With the Highlander and other lexus vehicles moving away form the old 3.5L V6, I find it odd that the redesigned Tacoma would carry on with it. I imagine the new Hybrid powertrain and 2.4T would be the sole offerings, but what do I know:)

I thought so too as you can see from some of my posts, but ultimately I ended up realizing Toyota always has a bag of tricks. The Tacoma did debut that engine in 2015 though, before they all did. Although 3.5L 2GR block debuted at the same time the 2nd generation Tacoma went on sale with the 1GR-FE.

As I've mentioned before we have the Rav4 with the 2.5hybrid. It's fine for a Rav4 weighted vehicle. Not great. But fine. It still screams going up mountain passes but does well around town. I imagine it's great at sea level.

I cannot stress enough that there isn't a chance in hell I would buy a heavier vehicle with that engine in it.

If you gave it to me I would sell it immediately.

Exactly, LOL but maybe with more power/torque figures? Toyota has made many regressive decisions with GA-F to say the least and I'm getting embarrassed being a cheerleader for it.

The Toyota guy was saying the Highlander hybrid in the Tacoma with a slight increase in power. The Highlander is about 200 pounds more than a taco.

This is true, but you clearly learned this already LOL. A25A will be offered indeed.

Just watched a review of the Toyota Crown. It comes with the 2.4 turbo hybrid, 6 speed auto. 340 HP and 400 torque combined 30 mpg on reg gas. I think these are the perfect power numbers for a 4Runner.

Base engine 2.4 turbo 263 HP - 309 torque
Limited/TRD Off-Road 2.4 turbo hybrid 340 HP - 400 torque
TRD Pro 3.44 twin turbo V6 389 HP - 479 torque

There was a rumour going around of a third engine option for the next gen Tacoma so I would not be surprised if the 3.44 tt is offered in the Pro models to try and keep up with Bronco and Jeep.

Maybe for the 4Runner? I don't think the Tacoma will have the V35A-FTS anymore nor a BEV, which some say BEV only will be for the Hilux. Doesn't make sense, so just wait and see.

If the Prado, which is a GX, gets a 4 banger, what will the redesigned GX get? They couldn't drop it from an 8 to a 4 in one generation, could they? Yikes. That would kill sales like a breakout of the plague.

I don't think the majority of GX buyers have ever looked under the hood to know there's a V8 in there. If the turbo'd or hybridized 4-cyclinder feels peppy and increases MPG, they will sell even better than the current generation.
