Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

The other option would be to hear nothing until the second it’s announced. Nobody likes to be teased but at least we now know that we’re getting some.

The psychology of getting a bunch of grown ass adults all giddy about a new car is fascinating.

Most unibody SUVs do, IMO. The only ones that I like the styling on are the Mercedes GLE AMG and the LR Disco, Defender, and RR. The X5 is ok, not great IMO. And I still have a soft spot for VW Touaregs but the new ones just look like an upscale Atlas Sport. None of the Asian or US unibodies look good to me.

You know, I never really thought about it, but you are pretty correct in my opinion.

JLR knows how to build good looking unibody vehicles and I realy like the styling of everything they make (the Disco is a bit odd looking with the asymmetric back but has grown on me a lot).

And I agree the GLE and X5 are both decent looking. I probably prefer the X5 to the GLE a bit, but that's personal preference. Otherwise I do dig the Cayenne, but there is really nothing from the Asian manufacturers or Americans that stands out. Of those vehicles, probably I've liked the styling of the Dodge Durango the most, but it's an ancient platform at this point (always had a soft spot for their SRT vehicles also as they are just bonkers). Jeep Grand Cherokee is okay also, but the stretched wheel base version just looks odd to me.

I have to admit, the Grand Highlander styling is pretty solid actually; maybe one of the better looking Asian unibody SUVs ever. Kind of looks like a Toyota crossed with an Atlas and way better looking than the TX.

Edit: I forgot about the new CX90. I think it actually looks really good!

IMO the Jeep Recon is a great looking boxy unibody. As is the new Defender. The Disco 4 was pretty decent as well. The new one - meh. Same for the BMW and Merc models for me. I think the Kia Telluride did the styling better than any of the luxury brands in that category, including the Genesis version. The other models I find pretty good looking are the Volvo lineup. I think they've done a great job across the board.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking about the Recon as it's still a bit from being out, but it's not bad looking and will be interesting to see how the final production versions play out. Going with electric vehicles, the R1S is pretty good looking in my opinion also even though I know Rivian styling is polarizing.

The LR4 was an interesting combination of a unibody being assembled on top of a ladder frame from what I understand, so it was kind of a hybrid of BOF and unibody. I do agree about them looking sharp though; I almost bought one back in 2012 when we ended up with our Rubicon Unlimited (just couldn't justify the $15K+ premium over the Jeep).

Agree Telluride looks better than the GV80 (which just has a funky look to it) and also the Hyundai Palisades, but I still don't care for the styling that much to be honest.

Volvos are okay. The XC90 was really sharp when it first came out but it's an aging design now. You don't see that many of them on the road though which has helped keep it a bit fresher.

Fascinating observation in a 6th Gen Speculation thread

Well, I include myself in the "grown ass adult" category. Even if my wife doesn't!

The other models I find pretty good looking are the Volvo lineup. I think they've done a great job across the board.

Actually I do like the Volvos and would consider a 90 if they weren't owned by China.
I also like the last gen of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. I don't like the new one though.
My distaste for Hyundai/Kia prevents me from paying attention to the Telluride. LOL Although it's clear that the Honda Pilot took design cues from it and it looks ok. I just wish they had a gear stick.

You know what's funny, I actually kind of have the same hang up of not wanting to purchase a car from a maker controlled by Geely. In addition at one point a lot of the vehicles they were selling in the US were actually assembled in China (I believe at a factory at Chengdu).

I looked at the XC60 briefly before I got my Disco Sport and that fact alone turned me off of them. Paying a premium for a Chinese built auto just seemed like an inane concept to me (but albeit, many premium goods are assembled there these days like most of our cell phones).

Poor Swedish automotive industry. RIP Saab.

I test drove the XC90 and gave it serious consideration. The interior was fantastic, one of the best I've been in regardless of price, but the moonroof design was terrible, it had almost 0 off-road ability and the cargo space was very limited. Also, the taillights are beyond ugly.

Every time I see someone write Disco 4 I think of the 70s.

TLDNR - 2024 GX Dimensions

CORRECT - Length - 194.88"
CORRECT - Width - 77.95"

I got similar body dimensions as you back on June 13th in post #1070.

Curious. How do you know that the photo with the mirrors inboard of the body show them in the normal driving position? Autoweek reported that ""The new GX is 83.22 inches wide with the mirrors out...". Others have reported similar. Some of the available YouTube videos showing the vehicles moving seem to show the extent of the mirrors are outboard of the body but it's really hard to tell for sure. It seems possible the mirrors were tucked in for photo purposes and could either swing out further or slide out as do some trailer towing mirrors. There has to be a reason Lexus used the 83.22" width in all of their documentation.

DC3TX, great catch and analysis, sorry I missed your post #1070, it is excellent. The reason I posted the analysis is to compare notes with other users to see if I'm understanding things correctly myself, you are the first one to take a serious look at it. After looking at a bunch of photos and videos, as you suggested, I see you are correct and I'm wrong. I've deleted my posts I referenced earlier, could you please edit your reply above to delete my incorrect "corrections".

So does this sound correct to you?
Overall Width of widest part of body, not including mirrors - 77.95"
Overall Width with mirrors extended in there normal driving position - 83.22"

I grabbed a screen capture from one video at the moment you can see the tip of the mirrors extending approximately 2 1/2" beyond the fender line. It appears the original photos I was using for analysis either had the mirrors folded or there was some parallax angle errors in the photos.

Edited my post as you requested.

Yes, your measurements sound correct (technically I got 77.94" by adding the amount listed in the press release to the width of the current GX as listed on the Lexus site).

It might need to be noted that the Overtrail is wider at around 78.72".

Nuluxe vs Semi Aniline Leather: Anyone Had Both?

As I ponder my next vehicle, I'm leaning towards the new GX, 4Runner or LC. The new Tacoma is also an option. Every time I consider a Toyota vehicle, I get frustrated by the compromises required to own one. I've always been a fan of real leather but it's looking like my best option for a GX is the Premium+ model and it only comes with Nuluxe.

Any one had both Nuluxe and Semi Aniline leather and can describe the differences between the two? I've heard the Nuluxe is very durable but how does it feel on bare skin? It can be hot out here in West Texas and I'd rather not stick to the seats like happened in the vinyl seats of yesteryear.

I could step up to the Luxury trim to get leather seats but I really hate 22" wheels on these vehicles. I actually want the 18" wheels and rubber that comes on the Overtrail but Lexus won't let me have it on the Premium or Luxury models. The Overtrail has a deal killer for me - I do not like the olive trim on the seats. Even if that trim was my favorite color, I wouldn't want it. I prefer more of a solid color seat or at least trim that is in the same color family as the base seat. Absent this seat trim choice, I could get behind an Overtrail if the Nuluxe is a good option.

Question for Toyota/Lexus: Why do you never allow your customers to choose the most luxurious interior and pair it with the most off-road worthy suspension and drive train?

Appreciate any thoughts.

A couple years ago we bought a new CUV for my wife to drive. The trim level came with 20" wheels, but I asked the dealer to swap them (for no credit) for the 18" of the base model. They'd not had the request before, but were willing to do it. Just ask the dealer... they likely get you-charge a "lucky" base model buyer who wrongly perceives the 20's to be an upgrade.
