The 5th gen 4Runner shares the same J150 platform as the Land Cruiser Prado and GX. They're all built on the same assembly line at the Tahra plant. If you want to believe that Toyota has created a special platform just for the 4Runner that's your business.

If the GX will have the same platform dimensions as the J300 then it's going to be much larger.

bro (or broette) J150 is not a Toyota platform code. It is a model code.

The model code for the Lexus GX 460 and Land Cruiser Prado is J150
The model code for the 4Runner is N280

The platform code for the 4Runner is GRN
The platform code for Lexus GX 460 is URJ
The platform code for the Land Cruiser Prado is KDJ or GRJ or TRJ depending on engine.

If you haven't worked with AI - this is exactly what it looks like because many or most are based on Reddit. Except reality doesn't matter because it's just guessing next words. So, showing a different component or measurement doesn't mean anything to the text generator because there isn't a way to process that internation. And the AI text generators often respond with something like "I bet you're fun at parties" out of context. Classic Reddit, but out of context.

In this case I think the idea is that Tacomas with manual transmission have a different frame from automatic. Except what the bot or person doesn't know is that Toyota uses the same frame for both in many cases (same PN). They didn't even know that the second half of the part number identifies a different part. On the taco It's the body that's different and the hardware and sometimes frame, but it's not universal either way. So it'll be a little anticlimactic. And it's not the same with the Prado/4r because the rear segment of the rolling chassis is actually different so they are not interchangeable regardless of powertrain. There are zero Prado frames that fit the 4R body or the other way. The bodys can't be swapped between the two.

The fact that they didn't know frames were built at a factory an hour away isn't surprising. Unless you've been there, that's harder to know. But in this case it's obvious they've never been to an assembly factory much less the tahara one.

Ultimately, the 4r and GX are very similar. They just don't share a chassis or frame. It's not super complicated.

Back to the new GX/4r - it's looking very unlikely that they will use the same relationship of same size and mission. The new 4R has to do something different from the lc250. Not sure what that is. Smaller? Cheaper? More off-road oriented? Not sure.

So I guess because the Landcruiser 300 and the Lexus LX was manufactured at the yoshiwara plant the the new landcruiser prado wll probably be manufactured at the tahara plant with the GX and 4runner, I thought that's why this discussion is not off topic.

MY2023+ Lexus LX600 as-is lux model.
MY2024+ Lexus GX550 as already unveiled (I love it).
MY2024+ Toyota Land Cruiser J300 total stripper model with off-road goodies as offered in Middle East and other markets.
MY2025+ Toyota 4Runner, 6th gen evolution of current model with various trims.

No need for a Toyota-badged Prado variant in the North American market.

Also, then Toyota could have gotten away with discontinuing the GX all-together, especially with the availability of a Toyota-badged stripper J300. Potential GX buyers could pony up for an LX if they demanded a BOF with a Lexus badge, or opt for a TX, or RX instead.

I do agree that the GX (or the 4Runner) would be a redundancy with the Cruiser coming back.

I just wonder if the LC return signals the ultimate demise of the 4Runner in the long term...like after the 6th gen has its run. A properly designed LC with enough trim levels (like the Bronco and Wrangler) could take the place of the 4Runner and give Toyota the legendary nameplate to do ultimate battle with Ford and Jeep.

Moving on, Not a fan of most of the Land Cruiser renderings. Hope the real deal is better. I don’t like the back quarter window being smaller than the side roll down windows as that was a great shape and style for the original Land Cruiser.

I completely agree with you about the rear window, I'm concerned about rear visibility. It looks like the stylistic designers won out over the practical engineers.

I think this has been mentioned before but with the new GX and LC being revealed, 4Runner sales for this last 5th gen year are in danger of cratering.

People who are in the market for a new SUV and like Toyota brands may opt to wait for these new rides rather than shell out for a model in its 14th year. That's already the case for some 4Runner enthusiasts on the fence between the outgoing and the new 6th gen but this is a lot of new competition...in-house competition no less.
