Best Spot to Mount a Garmin GPS?

Hi,

I did a search on this but didn’t really find anything recent. I was just wondering what you guys thought is the best place to put a Garmin GPS in a 2017 SR5 Premium? I’m leaning towards getting a vent mount and putting it on the center right AC vent above the navigation unit.

I’m thinking of getting a 2017 4Runner and the reviews of the navigation are pretty bad...as such rather than dropping $1000-$1500 on a Kenwood aftermarket unit or the T9 Android system which is more affordable but from what I’ve seen has major issues I’m thinking starting out just get the $200 Garmin GPS. That way I can keep the stock head unit and then use the Garmin for navigation. Also I’d prefer to not use my iPhone for navigation and would rather have a dedicated device.

What model GPS are we talking about here?
Some considerations:

- the smaller the unit and its buttons, the closer you want it to you for readability (unless its more for someone riding shotgun to navigate for you)

- bouncing around off road is no fun trying to glance at a small screen further away just to make the turn, if that's your style of driving (thinking pre-running)

Here is what I did.

Find a pallet edge protector or any thin L-shaped item. Chop off the mounting arm and screw in. I added a small piece of felt/hook and loop to the bottom of the Garmin. No bouncing around and is very solid. I also used a magnetic mount at one time in place of the arm in past vehicles. It worked well with out issues.

This is the best place to install. Easy to see and easy reach. Does not block the view of the road.

I primarily use it for posted speed signs, speedometer and upcoming roads. Plus, I can do voice guidance in a pinch if I do not want to use my phone.

I love having this at almost eye level. I do not like to look down.

RAM suction cup, arm, and device specific mount? That's what I use on the windshield, right above the center vents, with a Garmin 57. Rock solid even off road.

This one seems good. It’s a 6.95 inch display so being a bit larger is why I’m thinking the center right AC vent for the spot to put it.

I have a Garmin Drivesmart that has about a 4x6" screen. I used the included suction mount to attach it to the front of my POS Toyota Nav screen. Every so often it falls off - but it's easy to reattach. If you get a Garmin, make sure it comes with an A/C adapter so you can charge it away from the vehicle. Mine didn't come with one and Garmin wanted like $70 for it. Other than that, it works well.

I mount my Garmin below the right side temperature controller and passenger seat black light thing with the Garmin suction cup.
