Best way to add ground clearance...

So I'm looking at getting my 4Runner (doesn't have a name yet) lifted but what I am ultimately wanting is to increase the ground clearance a little. What is the best way of doing this? I'm completely new to the 4Runner world, for that matter I haven't owned a truck since the 90's! So I'm ignorant to the best solution.

I know rim and tires will increase the clearance but I also know that the wrong tires can rub and damage the fender well. With that said, what tires can a 4Runner handle without issues?

What other solutions are there? I'm only looking for 2" more.

The Daystar spacer lift will be your cheapest choice. I have had mine on for 8 years of off road in the desert and it works just fine.

If you actually want a functional lift, your best cheapest solution would be getting a set of Bilstein 5100s front and rear; and raising the front spring perches up to the desired height (and possibly also adding a rear spring spacer).

Best way to add ground clearance is with bigger tires. Best way to fit bigger tires is with a lift. Best way to add a lift is to determine your needs/wants. Best way to determine your needs/wants is to come up with a budget. Once you decide your needs and wants and know your budget you can choose your lift. Then choose your tires. Then add ground clearance

And take off your running boards if they are on there. Stupid running boards always hit everything. I swear you gain 3 or 4 inches on an sr5 or limited. Pre 2014 that is. You didn't say new or old

Wow, many thank you's to all of you! I will start looking into the various options.

What I find amazing is when I a "big" truck with huge wheels and 4-5 feet to get in the cabin but no more actual clearance the the transfer case of 8-9 inches, see here. It's makes me laugh. :laugh:

Anyway, I will start looking into my funds, what others have done and get moving.

As for my 4R, it's a 2013 SR5 Premium. I haven't done anything to it yet but I have ordered running boards, I know against some advise here but /she/ wanted them. :noidea: Ok, and I'm a short bastard! :behindsofa:

From what I'm seeing, I can put as much into accessories as the 4R! :wink2:
