Bigger Tires now w/ Lift - Opinions Wanted

Hi All,

I think I made a mistake. I got some 265/70/17 BFG K02s a few months ago then just installed my lift last weekend. I ended up doing King Shocks and coil overs with ICON springs in the rear and Total Chaos UCAs in the front. Now that the vehicle is lifted at some angles the tires look a little too small and goofy. I originally went with the C range tires because I was worried about completely killing my mpgs. Now, I'm kicking myself and thinking I should of went larger to at least a 275/70/17 or larger... What do you think? Should I bit the bullet and just get new 275s (or larger) and try to sell the mostly new 265 BFGs on craigslist? Wife will kill me... :ballchain:

If you can live with the look, just run them. Otherwise, you can get most of your money back if you sell now while they're new. But accept that you might take a 100-200 loss. They're still just tires. I felt your pain with some cooper's a couple months back

Did you have to do any modifications to fit 285s?
 
You may have to do some minor mods (minor being have to push the fender splash guard thing forward a bit) to make the 285s fit. From my reading, it is really truck dependent. But you will likely be okay.

Personally, I'd go a bit bigger. You'll take a money hit, but the tires will last a while, and will make you happy. I love my 275s, albeit I'm on stock suspension.

I'd also take off those door ding guards. But, I'm not one to talk, as I am currently waiting for my touch up paint to arrive after tossing my door into a concrete wall in my drive way. :D

Nice truck, and great suspension choice.
 
I have 6112s in front with 2.5 inches and 2 inch toytec springs and 5100s in rear. No UCAs. Did do fender edge trimming. Yours might rub a little more or less based on your wheels. I a running FN countersteer X in 17x8 and I get a little rub at full lock in reverse to the right.

If you are going to 275 from 265 there is only a 0.5" gain in diameter. Not sure if it's worth the mpg loss and $$$ loss for something that is otherwise a visual difference. If you got to 285s then that might make more sense. Otherwise stick with what you got and a happier wife to boot.

If you do decide to swap, go back to the same place you bought the 265s and see if they will give you a good deal on the swap.

I've got the exact suspension shipping right now. I plan to keep the 265 ko2s....

Therefore I'll tell you "it looks fine"
 
I was fine with 31" tires on my old 78 CJ-5 in the 80's, I'm still rocking 31" (265's) 2 1/2 years later on mine. I just started on my second pair of fronts after cutting a sidewall a couple months ago. Although SOME members in here keep trying to get me to go larger.......

Sell now and go 285s unless you don't mind that look for a few years.

295s on the left and 285s on the right.

I think it looks great man... You need to work on loosing that baggy body work if I were you.. you'll gain another 2 inches from swapping it out with trail bumpers or after market... That's what I would work on.

How do you like the kings ... Can you post some pics if you don't mind of where the coils and sway bar meet?

Actually if he pulls the LE rocker and puts the Trail rocker and Shrockworks step sliders it's 1 1/4" more of ground clearance based on my measurement. Haha!!!

Love the Kings. They ride pretty close to the stock XREAS, maybe a little softer but still pretty plush yet firm at the same time. Glad I decided to spend a little more on them. Here is a picture of the front coilovers I snapped during install. Let me know if you need a closer up or a higher res. pic.

You may also want to consider putting on 1.25" hubcentric spacers all around. It will push the tires out of the wheel well more. 1.25" just about aligned the outer edge of the tire with the outer edge of the wheel well. I'll see if I can add some pics of mine before and after. I have the same wheels with stock tires that were new when I bought it. I opted to wait until they wore down. I still have them. Spacers I got on eBay were black CNC machined aluminum and bolt to the wheel carrier. They are great quality.
 
It looks fine.... But if you are gonna do it, I agree with earlier post and do it now while they are dang near new (you'll get the most money for them). Accept that you'll take a $100-200 hit and move to 285s.

Haha not yet but i do have a girlfriend that's supportive of my hobbies! She actually got me those sliders for my birthday haha

No strain. Several people have upgraded to 285 mud terrains with 0 issues. People start to regear when they go bigger.
 
Looks 265's make your SUV look like a shopping cart, honestly. I swapped out my stock sized tires as quickly as I can when I purchased my 4Runner. I didn't buy this truck to save gas, if I did I would've just gone with a hybrid crossover like a Highlander. After my lift and 285s I average about 19mpg on the highway and 14.5-15 in the city. IMO with 285's, it looks the a slightly lifted truck "look right".

I you sell your Ko2's without a problem. Use those funds to get yourself some bigger tires.
