Bilstein 5100 - .85 Pic`s

This helped me pull the trigger for removing my OME 898 rear springs. Your truck has the perfect ride height and clearance. Thanks for posting, Ill have to share pictures when my truck is completed today.

childsusn I have a set of OME 898's and they have a significant change in ride height. So much so Ive decided to remove them until I can find a leveling kit for the front end. I currently have 5100's all the way around with the front set at the 3rd notch (1.75).

when you order new tires, perhaps look at what will fit once you have the new springs added to the rear. Good luck, looking forward to the pictures!

This is with 5100's front and back with stock springs. Front set at .85, did the swap in my garage without compressor's.

Truck looks good.

I went with 1.75 setting. Love it. I did 2 OME 10mm spacers stacked on each side. So 20mm each side over stock coil. Worked perfect. Loaded with 3 guys. A Thule hitch rack that fits 4 bikes but only had 3 and a lot of bags still was about level to a hair lower in rear but drove great.

Wheeling it's been great too. I am still on fence about going full 3" just don't need it for 90% of vehicles needs.

5100's installed .85 Front with stock springs.

I dig the look with just minimal rake. 265/70/17 Grabber AT2's installed. I'm selling my other car and turning in my work demo so this will default to DD duties. The elimination of nose dive while braking in addition to how much more composed the truck is than stock really transformed it.

How far out of alignment have these been after .85 lift? Or have people been finding no need for an alignment after?

Just ordered a full set last night. I would really like to do 1.75" and a 1" rear spacer or go ahead and do 2.50 with 1.5 SAW coils but don't have the extra money right now for tires, coils, or UCA at the 2.5" lift.

it may feel fine and drive straight, but you will want an alignment done after. unless your intent is to wear the stockers out sooner so you can buy your tire of choice!
also you could set the 5100's at 2.5 without having to change out the UCA's from what i have seen. i opted for the 1.75"/1" setup and am happy for now with stock tire size. once the 265 KO2's eventually wear out i will likely adjust the suspension and jump to 285's.

codyHTX love your ride! Are you running wheel spacers on your truck? Or just the TRD Pro wheels with stock tire size? Also what did you use in the rear to lift?

thanks! i do have the spidertrax spacers installed and 1" rear cornfed spacers.
for the spidertrax the front mudflaps had to come off and did the front fender mod. still a slight rub on the bumper cover piece that wraps under the front when full turn in reverse. soon i will muster the courage to hack that off....

couple comparison pics below:
A) stock suspension
B) 1.75" front
C) 1.75" front + 1.25" spidertrax

That does look really good with your 265s. I don't think mine would look so good with the stock tires though ha ha.

So I'm doing a lot of reading here and still have 1 question. I ordered a full set of 5100's yesterday and just want to know what you guys think. All I'm trying to achieve is a level ride with a little boost in height so I can comfortably fit 270's in the wells. I don't want to put spacers on the font or rears just use the settings on the shock body and stock coils.

My one concern is that if I set the front at 1.75" what should I set the rear at to be level? And if I went full out on them would I need to do a diff drop??

Thanks.

I really just want to comment on your name, but I'll avoid it for now. It does make me laugh, though.

Anyway, rear 5100s aren't height adjustable. They're fixed...sorta. Swapping springs will give you a little boost, or spacers. Regardless, wouldn't need anything in the back for a 275.

Front 5100's are adjustable to 4 fixed settings (0", 0.85", 1.75", 2.5")
Rears 5100's will accommodate (but not provide themselves) 0"-2" of lift, which would be achieved from springs or spring spacers.
with the front 5100's at 2.5" setting a diff drop will not be necessary.
you can fit 275/70/17 without any lift, long thread on that one.
"level" will mean different things to different people. level frame or level wheel well gaps?
1.75"F+0"R = pretty level wheel well gaps, but the frame may look/will be negatively raked. also with a loaded rear the wheel well gaps would likely look negatively raked. i personally think a slight positive rake has a better aesthetic look

Thanks codyHTX and -dustin for the insight. I'm pretty sure I read that going to 285's would require not only a lift but a body mod chop as well. So 275's is gonna be my limit. Would you recommend sticking around the .85" range in the front until I'm ready to add coils to the rear? I don't want the "pre-runner" look with a negative rake, yet I really don't run with much heavy weight in the back of the truck. Mostly snowboard gear, camping crap, or my tackle box. Not sure if at 1.75" it might settle a bit. And at 1.75" in the front what size spacers would I put in the rear to keep it level?

At the 2.5" mark would I need control arms because of binding? As you can tell I've never lifted a Toyota before, the last truck I lifted was my 2003 Jeep TJ and the shop did it all for me.

Sorry for all the questions, but I greatly appreciate the experience in the forum.

Man I searched and searched and saved pics of stuff I liked...then had to propose the ideas to the wife before approval. LOL. She liked 'level' looking for her daily driving so we settled on 5100's at .85 front /Stock Coils/and slightly more aggressive stock sized 265 70 17 Grabber AT2's. And had to have the SCS stealth 6's.

I'm happy, but....Had I won out, I would have opted to do the 1.75 front, FJ or OME coils right away and put BFG KO2's 275.. Or Icon stage 1 with 285 duratracs....etc, etc.

But alas, these decisions are not mine alone to make, thus the results I have. It's great for daily driving. It will be 'allowed' to step up in stature in a couple of years I am assured.

the front 5100's are only adjustable when un-installed. i would set it where you want it and avoid the extra labor/labor costs and an additional alignment.
i wouldn't go so far as to say it will have a pre-runner look with no rear lift, it will be very subtle. you may, like many others, like the 1.75"/0" combo and forgo the rear lift all together.
Or if you then decide you do want some lift in the back on the cheap, take some measurements and decide how much higher you want the rear to be, Cornfed Suspension will make a custom sized pair for you (i think)
2.5" you should be fine with the all other stock IFS components (anyone feel free to lay into me if that ain't right)

I’ve done quite a bit of research on all of this, and followed many of the same steps codyHTX has done. If all you want to do is level out the truck a little and slap on 275’s, then I would suggest 5100s with the fronts at .85 and call it a day until you are ready to redo the suspension. IF, you want a little more lift/meaner look, then you can go the same route as codyHTX and I both did, which is 5100s with front set at 1.75 and then add a 1 inch spacer to the rear suspension (and slap your new tires on there). The ride (mostly in the rear) suffers a bit from the spacers, but not horrifically bad, and you still have a bit of rake for loads, etc. At some point, I believe codyHTX and I will both revisit the suspension and replace the springs, etc. But the current set-up accomplished what we were looking for at a relatively inexpensive route. I’m still running stock-sized tires on Trail Ed rims (only NITTOs instead), but because of the spidertraxx spacers, they look pretty good all in all.

Search for some of my posts/replies... I have pics of my truck with 1.75 setting up front and no rear lift... and then 1.75 setting with 1 inch spacer lift. You should be able to see the difference even tho my pics are crappy iPhone images.
