Bilstein 5100 - .85 Pic`s

[MENTION=51725]mybabydaddy[/MENTION] - I'm contemplating the 1" cornfed/Bilstein setup you have. If you were going to move in the direction of springs, what setup would you get? I don't want a huge lift - my wife forbids it I can probably convince her that a 1"-ish lift is ok. Is there a spring lift option that would be about the equivalent lift amount as the cornfed setup you currently have?

Also, maybe I missed the comment, but if you are running Bilsteins up front, how does that cause the preloading you are referring to? I thought preloading a spring is caused by spacers right?

Because the 5100s come with a movable "perch", which is how you gain the lift with the shock alone. The "perch" can be at zero, .85, 1.75, and 2.5. The higher the setting, the more you "pre-load" the shock/spring setup.

Thanks, I wasnt aware the adjustable perch shocks like the 5100 and 6112 caused preload, in my brain I thought by changing the perch the spring simply sat higher causing the vehicle height to go with it. Trying my best to learn the verbage as I am coming from leaf spring world..

That doesn't preload, it just makes it longer.

5100s are similar to a top spacer, not a coil spacer, you are adding length outside of the coil

News to me; was led to believe from more than one source that changing the height setting on the 5100 added (some) pre-load to the shock. Regardless, makes no difference to me. The ride is firmer than stock shocks as mentioned.

I have the same truck and thinking about doing the same thing.
1. How do you like the ride quality?
2. Did you have it aligned afterwards?
3. Are you experiencing any driver side lean or is that not an issue with stock springs?

I also have the same truck and am considering adding 5100s in the front (or maybe something a bit better) and swapping to AT tires but probably 265. [MENTION=101484]jguerra[/MENTION] are you satisfied with the 5100s? Would you have gone differently? Is the ride noticeably better, worse, the same?

There is it's called Dobinsons they have a .75" rear coil that will give anywhere from .75" to 1.25" of lift depending on the weight of the truck in the back. Dobinsonusa.com or look em up in the vendor area. [MENTION=148378]Dobinsons Mike[/MENTION]

You are right on this one [MENTION=51725]mybabydaddy[/MENTION]. Moving the perch up squishes the coil thus preloading it. There is spacers that also preload the coil and there's top plate spacers which make the whole coilover longer instead.

If you say so. I was told by a guy at Wheelers Offroad that the coil is being preloaded but at .85 setting it won't really have a big enough impact on ride quality. I'm no mechanic btw.

All the pics after the first pic have the .85 front lift. It simply gives a leveled result with VERY SLIGHT forward rake. The ride quality is similar to stock but a little bit stiffer. Not as much body roll when turning and less nose dive when breaking.

What is the color of the wheels? Is it the gunmetal color or anthracite?

They are the Gunmetal. They discontinued the Anthracite. These wheels have more of a "Graphite" color to them imo.

Awesome. My truck is magnetic gray metallic and im in between the gunmetal or matte black colors
