Bilstein 5100 - .85 Pic`s

TRD ORP w/ .85 Up Front

Based on what I saw on this thread I went ahead and had 5100s installed all around with the front set to .85".

Happy with the outcome and the new ride. Now I just need to figure out what to do for tires...

275/70/17 with Bilsteins up front at .85 and stock rear. Still had to trim a small part of the bumper after install.

I'm sure the .85 community has seen this on some other thread, but anyways here is my .85 with 265 KO2s ....The KO2s help fill the well nicely ...add about 6 lbs per tire compared to Dunflop. In general the ride is stiffer, but also handles better

This is a sharp looking OEM+ 4Runner!

Do you have to install spacer for leveling, just purchased a new 2020 Off Road Premium and going to of install 5100 all around setting front to .85 rear stock springs, I had a 2013 Tacoma with a 2.5 lift and installed driver side spacer to level out the front.

Just installed 5100s up front and 5160s in the rear with the front set at .85 and no rear lift. I can happily report that the thread consensus is accurate. This is the correct OEM+ leveling setup for the 5th gen 4Runner and all other answers are wrong.

It sits perfectly level, and looks exactly how they should have spec’d them from the factory. I’ll post Before/After pics tomorrow in the daylight.

Awesome looking forward to the pics!

Reason for using 5160s on the rear instead of 5100s?

What tire size are you going with?

have question
thinking of doing the 5100 all around
i knew that the driver side front has more of preload on the spring coming from the factory, so when i install the new 5100 with the OEM springs do i just set them @ .85 on driver and passenger sides do not need to do more of preload on the driver spring? just want to make sure.
thanks
and why does the 4runner come this way from factory?

This will answer the last poster’s question too.

I posted much earlier in with my pics and results with 5100s all around on OEM coils and no spacers. This setting does not require leveling spacers since the lift is modest. The inherent lean from the factory is not noticeable in my opinion at this setting and therefore I never found myself wishing I had done the spacer to level the driver side.

Having now moved up with a 2.5 front position with a 1.5” rear spacer, I absolutely should have leveled out the front. Unfortunately in all my reading I somehow missed that and the driver’s side lean is very evident at the higher setting. If you’re going to keep it at .85 though, I don’t believe you will find yourself needing the leveling spacers as I never noticed lean until I went up.

Any pics?

Here are two quick ones from my iPhone this morning. Tires are stock size. K02s and BD Squadron fogs are next.

Re: The driver side lean being discussed, I’m going to go park it on level ground and take some measurements but the way it’s parked in the photos, it’s noticeable. I’ll give it some time and decide on adding a spacer to compensate.

Looks great - thanks for sharing!

What made you go with the 5160s on the rear instead of the 5100s?

What made you go with the 5160s on the rear instead of the 5100s?

In no particular order:

-marginal price increase for the performance improvement over the 5100s
-I wanted remote reservoirs because they’re cool and I’m a 33year old man child
-I may eventually upgrade the fronts to 6112s

I went in another direction when I installed my Bilstein 5100. I installed front Bilstein 5100 Shocks with clip on 2nd notch from the bottom (0.85"). I also installed spacers on both side with the Bilstein Shocks. Added a 3/8" Spacer on the LF with new strut bolts and 1/4" spacer on the RF with new strut bolts. This will eliminate the typical lean. I got 1.75" lift on the LF and 1.50" lift on the RF.

These are the measurements before and after on 12-2-2019.
These are the measurement before :
LF -29.00 and RF -29.25
LR -31.25 and RR -31.25

These are the measurement after and photo:
LF -30.75 and RF -30.75
LR -31.25 and RR -31.25

Do you have a link, source, or part numbers for the spacers you used?

Thanks.

275 KO2s are on. E load range is no issue at 38psi.

Love the look but already kinda wish it was a 1.10” setting instead of .85. If I tire of it, I’ll switch to 6112 and add cornfed rear spacers. Maybe a tiny spacer on FL for lean comp.

I guess I should have done a search before installing. I went with OME springs and put the fronts on the highest setting. It rides horribly and bounces under 40 mph, as the shocks clearly have way too much pre-load on the springs. I ended up having to swap out the rear OME 895e for a set of Icon springs, and still had to add a 1" Cornfed spacer in the rear. I guess I'm going to have to remove the fronts struts and lower them a few notches, as it still sits a 1/2" low in the back. You can see in the last pic the height difference between the stock/OME/Icon rear springs.

This is exactly what I wanted to do with mine (2.5" setting front, OME 895e rear and on my Limited as well). This is probably a stupid question, but could the reverse rake be caused by the weight of your bumper? Also, do you think there are specific springs I could use for the rear instead of having to add spacers? Thanks in advance, I'm pretty new to these things.

By the way, which size are your Ridge Grapplers?
