Blacking out FJ Wheels (Lots of Pics)

Those are most often textured finishes, which helps them not become slippery. Your first obstacle when using something like that is trying to find a decent non-textured one because I think a textured finish on a set of wheels would look really bad. Even then, it seems that most people prefer gloss-black over flat-black finishes.

Yeah, you may be right. Maybe when i have rims just for off-roading, then i will consider this.

The FJ wheels have clear coat and silver paint in them just like our 4R sports rims.

I would not mind doing my FJ's in black , but would go powdercoat gloss black I think and My FJ springs in blue . I know kinda weird , but you all know me ..... kinda weird.

Like with anything I think the quality of product used , experience of coaters , ect.... can determine the strength and quality / durability of the final product .

Has anyone tried Line-X or those bedliner spray on stuff on rims?? Those spray on things are tough as nails...indestructible or something like that! I am not sure how much the Line-X will affect wheel balance...also, it is kinda grainy looking, so appearance is not all that great, but if it works, then it should give you a lifetime of protection!

While you're at it, might as well line-x your whole 4runner!! Once my G gets really old, that is my plan!

Thats what I used for my wheels Thai.....I think they look pretty good textured....that was the look I wanted and was going for....wheels, tube steps and roof rack all pretty well matched now....

ahhh crap...so, the bedliner spray-on stuff is not very durable??? It is no stronger than regular rattle can paint??

EDIT: i just looked at your thread more carefully. You used a rattle can bedliner spray. Is this the same stuff as Line-X?? I thought that Line-X is a professionally installed coating that is thick.

Its probably a little stronger but they also had the liquid pint as well that u could paint on thicker but would probably start to weigh too much, it would be way to thick, mine are pretty thick, as they are nicely textured...

Finally got around to this finishing this. I was very happy with the final product! I ended up not using that wheel paint since it was horrible and went for Rustoleum Satin Black Paint as well. It worked much better and sprayed evenly.

Looks awesome! Your truck would look beyond amazing with a SW bumper. If you decide to buy it out after your lease, that should be the first mod on the list.

I'm curious to see how those Bilsteins ride compared to my Icons.

I especially like the "TURD" stickers, as they were called by Mark (Expat). (Oops, am I allowed to mention that name on this forum? LOL! :lmao

BlairB, nice looking truck! I like the combo of FJ rims and BFG MT. I think that you should get an ARB rear locker instead of bumper next...since you already have someone else with a winch (aka Josh) to bail you out.

Thanks guys, I am definitely happy with how these turned out. Especially considering I spent about $10 per wheel.

I know, I have always debated a rear locker. That is also a very good point at Josh having the winch. My next steps are putting my sliders on (this weekend), putting my new suspension on (next weekend), getting my HAM license/radio (in progress) and then we will see where else it takes me.

I debated doing that but since I will have so much chrome/silver regardless(all the lights) I do not think it will improve the looks quite as much as it would on others 4runners and the money would be better spent elsewhere. Definitely have debated doing the headlights myself though.
