blower fan wont run on low

I searched and couldnt find anything, but any simple reasons as to why mine does this? all other speeds are fine.

I think it has to do with a resistor on the fan motor. I have the same problem on mine. But honestly I have been to lazy to do any about it.

The fan speed resistor pack consists of 3 resistor coils in a series. For the 4th speed, the resistor coil is by-passed and 12V is supplied to the fan motor. For the lowest speed, all 3 coils are used and supplies a low voltage to the fan motor, the next speed level only uses 2 resistors in series so more voltage at the motor, the 3rd speed only runs through a one resistor so more voltage at the fan (but still less than 12 V).

Sometimes, the fan speed selector switch can go bad. The contact points may sink into the plastic housing giving a poor connection.

If your truck has the regular sliding switch (came in 96-98). Any 4runner made from 90 to 98 or pickup truck made in 90-95 works.

Deezil- a year and/or what style switch would be nice.

I was able to take the sliding selector out of my 96 apart and bend the selector arm very very slightly for better contact.

"4 catches holds the switch together. I pried them carefully (think 17 year old plastic) and got to the heart of the matter.

Good to know about the range of availability for those particular switches should I ever need a 'new' one from the boneyard, thanks nissanh!
