Blower noise

The blower in my 4runner has always made a little more noise than I think it should, especially on the lower settings, I'm just curious if anyone else notices this or if maybe I have a bad blower motor.

It's not the kind of noise you get from the fan turning fast and moving a lot of air. It just seems like it's coming from the motor. Sorry I can't describe it.

I just changed the cabin air filter and found many leaves stuck in the filter and several that had gotten past the filter into the fan. I recommend you pull the filter and take a look into the fan, which is just below the filter and easily accessed once the filter is pulled out. It will take less than 5 minutes and is worth a look for any foreign objects stuck in there.

I just had my in for my 32,000km service and the tech noticed it was loud, told me they'd order a new blower motor for me and replace it under warranty. Mine does get noisier as you turn it up though.

I have the same issue and it has been there since the first day. It's a high pitch frequency and I can hear it more on low speed. It bugs the crap out of me! Local dealer told me it wasn't loud enough for them to change it but the dealer which I purchased from said they would change it no problem but they are 1 1/2 hours away.

Somewhere on here there is a picture someone posted of them using a little dental mirror to find a leaf that was stuck on the top of the blower motor housing.

I put a new filter in in October, and just changed it yesterday. It was FILTHY. I put it in just before Sandy, and driving around in all that crap clogged up the filter very fast. I think things can somehow get by dirty filters and cause noise.

I too have this same high-pitch tweaking noise in my 2010 Runner. It started about a month or two ago and is making me nuts. I've checked the cabin filter and couldn't see anything in the hamster-wheel-looking fan- even with a mirror as described above. Its less noticeable when the fan is up higher. I stopped by the dealer and the tech could definitely hear it and thought it would be covered by the warranty. It's going in tomorrow as the 3-36 is up in a few weeks. Wish me luck.

Wife had the same issue in her 2011 Sienna. They replaced it under warranty. However, I will also post her habit. She leaves the motor on when she shuts the car off or turns it on, heat for winter and AC for summer. Crazy woman. I on the other hand, shut it off prior to shutting the car off. Little things...

I am having the buzzing noise happen with my '13 on the higher fan speeds too. I just had the filter replaced less than a month ago. Should have done it myself, but let the service guy do it after showing me my filter was dirty. Prior to the replacement filter there were no issues or noises.

Does anyone think replacing the filter could cause this or is this just coincidence? The filter was slightly crumpled on the edges when I just checked it. Like when the service tech pushed it in he crumpled that back edge a little bit.

Mine was making a bit of noise about 3 months ago (about 22,000 miles) and the dealer replaced it no questions asked. It was definitely worse in the cold weather

Mine's been noisy for several months, and recently got louder. It's on my growing list of things to address when it gets warmer.

My fiancee says she can't hear it, but admits that she can't hear any of the squeaks in her Audi, either (they drive me insane).

This was much cheaper than expected. Motor not going out. A leaf was in the blower making that noise. 15 minutes spent. I wonder what a shop would have charged me?

My hvac blower is annoyingly loud. Its lower than the radio up to 5. Its the high pitch frequency even on the lowest setting. Dealer said to then up the radio. What crap. We gor got in another new one and it had it too, just not as bad.

This is horrible for a nearly $40k vehicle. Anyone get it fixed? Its not a leaf or filter but a bad motor or fitting. Plan on making myself eally annoying to Toyota and the dealer ship with any facts.
