Blower noise

Just got 2016...fan was making too much noise. As stated in previous posts, I took the filter out to check the fan. Felt around with my fingers and found a leaf. Remove leaf. Back to normal.

I just changed the cabin air filter and found many leaves stuck in the filter and several that had gotten past the filter into the fan. I recommend you pull the filter and take a look into the fan, which is just below the filter and easily accessed once the filter is pulled out. It will take less than 5 minutes and is worth a look for any foreign objects stuck in there.

Thanks. That solved my problem. I had replaced the cabin air filter and a small piece of leaf had fallen onto the plastic turbine below. It was only 1" diameter, but it was enough that it disrupted the airflow and caused a vibrating hum.

Removed leaf from below filter, no more hum.

Just replaced mine today. Still suprised Toyota mad it easy to replace, although wish this original didn't start squealing so soon on my 2016.

replacement mine yesterday. super easy to DIY. some tips that may or not be obvious

- if you have a limited model BE CAREFUL pulling the plastic trim off under the dash. the amber courtesy footwell LED is attached to it (not applicable in other trims). If you yank this off you'll break the connector. you can disconnect the LED but I didn't bother, just moved the trim to the side carefully
- screws are threaded into plastic, do not overtighten, use hand tools and go until snug
- the plastic connector can be a real pain to remove. wiggle gently, and it will come out. some use a flathead screwdriver but if you damage the connector you're screwed

I have the same issue and it has been there since the first day. It's a high pitch frequency and I can hear it more on low speed. It bugs the crap out of me! Local dealer told me it wasn't loud enough for them to change it but the dealer which I purchased from said they would change it no problem but they are 1 1/2 hours away.

I have a 2016 limited & have just started noticing this noise in mine a few weeks ago. It is constant when my heat/air is on, no matter the setting/speed/temperature, and it sounds like a cd is constantly spinning or when you load a game in a console & it just spins & makes that high pitched noise, if that makes sense. It comes from under my glove box. I took into the dealer who told me they couldn't hear a thing & that it's "gonna make noise", but it wasn't before. Stops the minute I turn it off. Now when I change from hot & cold I'm starting to hear another noise that sounds like something opening/shutting, so I'm assuming it's something to do w/ circulation & might be normal, but I've never noticed it until now. I took my filter out, which is new, & found a couple of leaves & nothing down in the fan that I can see.

If you didn't actually take the blower out I'd recommend doing so and looking. I changed my cabin air filter and a long pine needle dropped in. Couldn't see it, but sure could hear it. You probably don't have something that big in there, but it's super easy to do and would give you piece of mind. Worst case is you're back to square one and you just unfortunately happen to have a loud blower.
