bpwwer's 2015 Limited build and drive thread

Thanks! I see them on the website now.

Did you originally have the OEM LE running boards? I just want to compare how much higher the sliders sit vs the OEM boards. I feel that the LE running boards hang very low and would like to get a bit more clearance while still having a small step for the kids and the wife.

My other option (although more expensive) would be to replace the rocker panels with TE rocker panels and buy the TE sliders. I assume that would increase the ground clearance even more.

Direct fit, no modification needed, just specify that you have a limited when ordering

I specifically didn't get running boards because I knew I wanted the sliders. These OPOR sliders seem to be the only non-custom ones out there for the limited with the XRES. The brackets are designed to fit around the XRES lines.
Mistakens just got a set of these too and will probably have them installed before I do.

There are some pictures here that might give you some idea on the height

Sliders

Attempted to install my OPOR sliders last night. Things could have gone better. One slider is installed, but I may be pulling it back off tonight.

The slider is currently pressing against the front mud flap and causing it to deform slightly. It looks like the slider needs to be about 1/2/" back. This is on the driver's side.

It is also not very level, but I think that can be adjusted but I did try.

The passenger side went on much easier (as is typically the case), but it too, was pressing against the mud flap and seemed to be a bit farther forward. However, I was unable to thread the upper rear bolt into the frame. At first I thought it was just the alignment of the slider bracket hole that was making it difficult. But I ended up taking the slider off and still can't get a bolt threaded in that hole. Tried multiple bolts and the bolts thread fine into any other hole in the frame. Since I don't have any metric taps and very little metric hardware, I eventually gave up. Does anyone know what size tap I need for that?

This is the first time in a few years that I spent any time under a vehicle, I don't remember cement being that hard! Or maybe I'm just getting old

Can you tell by looking at it that that problem nut is actually the same thread pitch as the others? I've had situations on my '14 where the holes and the nuts from one side to the other are not necessarily in the same place or the same size!

Anyway if it is obviously the same nut as the others, I'd just truck to the tool store with the bolt in tow and match up a tap for it there... While your there buy a bolt/nut pitch gauge :) They come in handy a lot :D

No, I can't. Good suggestion! I didn't think about that, but I also don't have a lot of metric hardware and I don't think I have another smaller bolt to try. Of course it's the one that's near the top of the frame, above the xres and brake? lines. I did stick a mirror up there and best I could tell, it wasn't plugged up.

I've just ordered a metric tap and die set that comes with a pitch gauge. I won't be able to work on for a few days anyway. My best guess is that the nut is welded either slightly off center or there's something (paint?) filling the threads enough to prevent the bolt from starting. But with the various taps, I should be able to either clean it out or figure out if it is indeed a different thread pitch.

The sliders are installed!

I think I'll probably hold the record for a while on the time between installing one side and the other.

About 2 weeks ago I started the install. The driver's side went on without too much trouble but it did take a while. The passenger side went on fairly smooth except for one of the frame bolts. No matter what I did, I could not get it started. Eventually I took the slider back off and tried for a while to thread that one bolt but still couldn't do it. After about 30 minutes I gave up and decided I'd likely need to run a tap through it.

After buying a new tap and die set so that I'd have a metric set, I ran a 8x1.25 tap in there this afternoon. There was a lot of metal in on the tap after I backed it back out so my guess is that maybe some welding spatter got in there. In any case, the bolt now threads in there without any issues. So time to get it installed. There was a short break in the rain and I was able to get it attached but it was raining pretty good by the time I got all the bolts tightened up. So no pictures yet. The driver's side looks a little uneven from front to back so I still want to loosen up that side and see if I can even it out.

I wonder if anyone noticed the lopsided look while I was driving it around with only one slider for the past couple of weeks.

I bought OEM mudflaps for the LE but was trying to figure out how to install the front one in conjuction with the miniflaps that came with the LE ? Seems like there would be a gap in the well if I remove the miniflaps and only put on the mudflaps? Do you need to trim that miniflap or is there a better solution I am missing? Thanks!

The dealer installed mine so I'm not sure. Just looking at my pictures from before/after it doesn't look like the miniflap is there anymore so I'd guess it has to be removed. Does this help any?

Mud flap install instructions

Can you get a picture of the gap?

I did not actually install the front mudflaps but I will recheck once I get the nasty stuff off the truck! The miniflap does not do much to keep snow off the running board. Can you take a pic of your frontmudguard and the wheel well? If I remember, the miniflap was attached higher than the front mudflap so if I thought if I removed it, there will be a gap behind it unless the mudflap was redesigned for 2014 Limited and I got the wrong one; I think I got one to fit 2010-2013 Limiteds at the time - I just assumed it would also fit the 2014.

Sure, I can take a picture or two tonight.

Here's a couple of shots of the driver's side front. It's about the best I can do at night and if you want/need access to the full size images let me know.

Thanks. That helps a lot. The gap does not look too bad without the miniflap over it. I guess they must have redesigned the well wheel for 2014.

Packed up the wife and dogs for a long weekend at the cabin. One of these days we'll do some backroad/forest road exploring, but for now, a long weekend at the cabin means hanging doors, sheetrock work, and fireplace tile.

Is it the picture or is that slider really pitched upward front to rear?

Some of both, but yes, it does need to be adjusted. I needed to make the simple process of installing sliders a multi-week job. I think the passenger side is closer to level, but that was just dumb luck as I finished up as the rain rolled in.

So, this happened sometime last night.

I noticed this after cleaning all the egg off the tailgate, window, spoiler, bumper. It's right below the window. I don't think it's going to just buff out.

There are also streaks still visible where the egg ran down the tailgate and bumper.

Maybe that's what the dog was barking at last night....

Damnit. It's hard to tell is that a dent, or the scratches visible in the pic? Either way that sucks. The scratches could easily buff and maybe a good PDR guy could get the centre part out?

Really enjoyed your build thread so far, just picked up a 15 LE two weeks ago and am following your experience with the OPOR sliders, kind of seems like they aren't really a direct fit, or do you think it was just a one-off issue with the mud flaps?

Bad news unfortunately- that will not buff out. The egg ate through the paint. Maybe your insurance will help cover it? Sorry!
