The Prodigy IS a proportional controller, it applies power to the trailer brakes in proportion to vehicle's deceleration.

Here's the more technical answer.\:

The BrakeSmart is the best controller as is Ford's integrated Tow Boss system, then the Jordan, then the Prodigy... The BrakeSmart, Ford's Integrated controller and the Jordan are all true proportional controllers... The Prodigy is proportional to the deceleration rate of the tow vehicle sensed by the microprocessor/accelerometer circuitry in the controller... If the TV is not decelerating, there is no proportional braking... Example, step on the gas while stepping on the brake... If no boost is set, is there any braking???

I didn't make that statement, just quoted it. The Prodigy, as far as I know, is like any other inertia controller, as it takes stopping motion of the vehicle to work. I think they were saying that unless an additional boost was set, nothing would happen if one pressed the brake while stopped. The true proportional systems will activiate the trailer brakes regardless of whether the rig is in motion, when the pedal is depressed.

Good to know. I don't think my old initeria type controller did this, but that must be one reason why Prodigy makes it into the top 3 controllers (not including Ford's new system).
