Brake Line Question (OEM vs Aftermarket)

Hi

I just lifted my 2001 and am interested in changing my brake lines as they are very worn. In the front I have a 3.5 inch lift and in the rear a 5 inch lift. Here is the thread for those interested: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/287200-tundra-lc-lift-first-time-off-roading.html

Do I need to get longer brake lines? Also should I get OEM or aftermarket ones and which would you guys recommend?

You only need extended line in the rear, the front line has a hard line that runs on the knuckle, so you don't have the issues with droop that you would on a jeep or other vehicle with a soft line running all the way down to the caliper.

The SS lines are a good upgrade for the front. I just picked up a set of Stoptechs from a member here. I'll be doing a writeup on that in the future.

With that much lift in the rear you will want to replace the rear brake lines (there are 2 lines in the rear for 2001-2002 4Runners) with extended brake lines. Wheeler's has a good quality set of braided stainless front and rear brake lines available. Most people go with braided stainless to replace the rubber brake lines to improve pedal feel. $60/axle

I'm running wheelers SS braided extended line in the rear ( 99s only have the 1) and it was easy to install and does the job. I don't think you'll really be able to tell differences between brands until much later down the road...you know durability and such.

I think I have some used SS lines for the front that I removed when I went to a LT setup if you're interested.

I will throw this out there....
1) yes you will need an extended line for the rear
2) the car is over 20 years old...so since you got to bleed the system replace the fronts at this time too.
brake lines can be tricky...meaning they can look good from the outside...but its a 20+ year old rubber...and I have seen them fail on the inside....well you could not "see" but bulge to the inside and restirct fluid flow...yes it can
so why not be done with it and do the fronts too ?

There has been many many threads about break issues on this forum...and again I will say...well 20 year old brake hose...hmmmmm
