Brake pads

Just went in for 30k miles services dealership. They recommended my rear brake pads to be replaced. They are at 3mm. Fronts were at 5mm. Vehicle is a 2014 Limited and driven on pavement only and mix of local and highway and don't really think that aggressive braking. I don't recall having to change pads so early in my other vehicles.

Do these 4runners really wear brake pads earlier because of weight? That was their explanation.

Approve the brake job, but ask them to re-measure with you being present.
If they really are thin, replace them. If they don't measure to what they claim, raise hell.

Probably last time I am going to a dealership for service esp as I get close to end of warranty period. Always something to change and overpriced as usual. Is there anything special/unusual in a 4Runner that independent mechanics can't deal with other than things like firmware updates?

I have a 2012 with around 80K, last oil change they told me the exact same thing -- down to the exact thickness on both sides.

I mic'ed them myself. Yeah, I bet they bought they micometers at Harbor Freight...

NO! Find a good, local (recommended) mechanic and tell that dealership Good-Bye!
