Braking - Power & a few cosmetics

After 4 months finally got a Limited. Took a while because two options (Auto Running Boards & JBL) were not available in my region so it was ordered by another dealer then “traded”. It’s an adjustment from my crew cab Duramax diesel truck. Overall 4R is a nice rig. A few areas I’m not liking:

•Braking is touchy and the nose dives too much. Is this common on 4R’s? Any solutions?
•Underpowered. Although my diesel was modified 500+HP/1000TQ I can’t compare the two but 4R should have 300hp. Hopefully TRD will develop a supercharge soon.
•Tail light design is bulky and can be seen from side mirrors. Sort of matches the front but a smoother line would refine it. Any aftermarket lenses?
•Wheel width and offset. Like the 20’s and design but looks wimpy from front/rear. Would like to keep the rims and upgrade the tires though the extra rotational weight may impact the power and braking?

I’m trying to reserve from mods though it’s in my DNA :biggrin2:

The search police will arrive shortly. Nose dive can be easily fixed with a lift, but with a Limited you lose XREAS with some (I believe, I have an SR5 so I don't know for sure).

It is not underpowered, just geared for MPG, sadly. I, as well as other members, tow with the 4R quite often and up to the max weight (5000#) and it really does not have a problem handling it. You'll just use a lot more of your gas pedal than you did with that Duramax.

I doubt there are any different lenses, you'll get used to it.

The 20's on the Limited are like wagon wheels. Get the lift, and upgrade the tires/wheels to some 285s in whatever flavor you like. I stuck with a 17 to allow the most sidewall for wheeling.

Welcome to t4r!

tail lights

I just think of my tail lights as an evil little red car that is ALWAYS tailgating me.

There's been a couple posts recently about how the t4r needs 300hp+. Coming from a turbo diesel it's not the hp it's the torque curve. People buy hp and drive torque. As some people have posted in previous threads drive it hard and the ecu will adapt the throttle accordingly. This truck has plenty of power it's just the throttle programming from the factory. You put the gas pedal down 40% but you are probably only getting 20% on the throttle body.

Good to know on throttle so very similar to my other vehicle. I guess most cars today adapt to drivers. I need to spend more time on the board to understand the taxonomy so Antman wont head bang.

Ant's a good dude, he just likes giving you a hard time.

I too came from the diesel world, a Dodge CTD with a few mods to this 4R, so I understand your talk about power. It is adequate and it will get better with more drive time. But like you I am eyeballing a Supercharger, because too much is just about right in terms of power.

The braking, I'm not sure if it gets better by breaking in or you just get used to it. When we bought the t4r the brakes were crazy touchy but they are awesome now.
