Actually, I heard they were only going to start doing this going forward. Meaning that it is not on 2010 models yet. Hence the massive recalls for many 2010 sedans.

I do not have that one...might want to get that checked.

Agreed. Toyota gets it parts from other smaller suppliers who probably are just at fault as much as toyota (those part suppliers likely work with honda and nissan as well). Now i am hearing that TOYOTA bullied these smaller suppliers into cutting the price for same part over last 10-20 years with increase cost of raw material. Probably explains some of issues, but too this is a wake up call for japan. A while back sony had issues, now Toyota. No car is perfect as we are seeing now.

and while were on this topic, is the 4runner equipped with the drive by wire system ( i assume it is). I would have preferred the drive by cable system like on my 00 corolla
I only notice this when driving at a slow speed < 10mph and coming to a complete stop.
I have the same thing, it does not vibrate but when I push the brake pedal I can feel a little click. Sometimes I associate it with the gear shifting, sometimes not. Really annoying, but Toyota said its normal.
However, I also notice that when coming to a near stop, I get a subtle vibration feeling on the brake pedal. It’s not quite ABS, it feels like gears turning. What is that? Is it normal? I have a Limited 4x4.[/QUOTE]

Dekeman, did you check you build Date? Mine was 12/09, unsure of exact date, and mine does not seem to have that feature. An automotive engineer friend of mine gave me instructions as to how to check and it was somewhat different then what you did. I copied and pasted his directions here.
To test feature, take vehicle to open parking lot. Place gear selector in drive and place left foot on brake pedal firmly. Depress accelerator pedal. If so equipped, the rpm will rise to approximately 1500-1800 then the computer ignores any further throttle input. Computer is receiving out of range signal from engine because it is not receiving input from speed sensor and it is receiving brake switch input. PCM makes decision and ignores throttle position sensor input.
Having worked for an auto manufacturer, I can tell you that changes occur in the middle of production runs all the time. Yours could be programmed that way but one from a month earlier may not have programming update (just a for instance).
My RPM's continued to climb past 3K and then the back tires started to break loss, (power braking) so I stopped. So I am thinking, I do not have the feature.
Now, the way you did it, and the way I was instructed to do it, may be the difference, maybe not. It simply may be that yours was built at a later date and the feature was added with yours. Appreciate you input.

What was Toyota's explanation of what it was?
I have this same squish sound and the vibration as well. Mine's at the dealership now getting the remote start put in and the dealer decal taken off and so I had them look into it and I'm going to call tomorrow to find out more.
Has anyone else figured out exactly what this is?
