TRD Supercharger

Objective: Increased HP and Torque

Install was strightforward for how large of a mod this is. Instructions were clear and aside from a vacuum line diameter/fitting, no hiccups.

Cost will depend on what you get a kit for. There is one on ttora right now for 1k. I don't think you modify cars because its worth it, you do it for fun.

I don't plan to dyno it. I'll add a pulley and fuel kit and a wideband.

Add on goodies

The reason i ask is that my current T4r is leaking coolant in one of the cylinder and at 244k miles it's not worth doing a HG when i could get a long block for 2k.i'm still adding up all the goodies i like to bolt on when i replace the engine.Thanks for sharing all your mods.

I agree, I plan to do zeromengine work. I will buy a remaned engine if I ever have an issue. Kinda the game plan when I bought the 4runner - expecting to swap the engine inside of a few years.

New shocks on the way, different damping, lots of fluid, increased travel. Overkill, most likely, but they look cool and werent much more than 5150s. I'll move the mounting to the frame I think like rip did and others.

I am also looking at getting some airbumps for holes.

I am thinking the bumps will substitute for travel and stiffer springs. The vehicles to heavy with climbing gear and people to take big holes but I dont want stiff springs because I can do washboards pretty fast right now. Most of the time its 2, but when its 4 its loaded down.

The interceptor can take 2 analog inputs. The 4runner doesnt have the data on the bus so cant see it on the OBDII ports.

I am going to get a PLX unit from URD to supply the signal to the interceptor.

On order... I also got a wide/narrow band PLX brand too since I can serial them - 1 interface cable to pull data. I ordered direct and they discounted it 10% or so.

The wideband I can put in the OE bung and mimic the OE sensor. Since this sensor is a 'dumb' narrowband?, and the PLX sends both narrow and wide on different outputs, it should be easy to fool the truck. If the truck doesnt like the signal, I'll add a resistor as required. 1 analog output to ECU, 1 analog output to gauge, digital output of wideband data.

Both the boost and wideband will feed into the 2 analog inputs on the interceptor. I can also pull the data on both for logging.


I also ordered one of these steering wheel pod mounts from cravenspeed. They didnt know if it would work with our 4runners but they said they'd work with me to get it sorted. Kinda bizarre as I assume tacos have the same steering wheel shroud and between tacos/3rd gens, arent there like a million out there. Worst case I get a wider one than needed, and I cut the center out. I didnt want to loose the grab handle, didnt want to look over, or down. The interceptor is mounted on the shifter and I dont like looking down at it.

Where in Seattle are you located at? I've been wanting to get my truck up on a dyno for some fine-tuning with the super charger too - you should let me know when you're thinking about doing it, and we could potentially save on the cost if we book together. Let me know if you need any help installing it - I installed all of mine too.

Got a bunch of stuff in Friday.

I was able to get the PLX vac/boost sensor installed and interfaced to the interceptor. Overall the PLX unit looks very high quality. Even though it took for ever, its done and working fine. I probably have to play with the offset a bit in the interceptor.

This bracket for gauges is actually for a 2004 4runner, but the span is the same. I had to enlarge the holes in the steering column, which was pretty easy. They are adjustable so you can position them as you wish.

I think I was headed down the same path as yours, albiet at a much slower rate...

However, I just got some body damage on my last trail outing and am re-considering my build plan.

Sorry to hear about trail damage. I see you have a DD as well and checked out your thread. You DD looks pretty clean too! I see you got the stubbs sliders on... something I have yet to do. =}

skid plates

Objective: Protect underside from trail kickup, occasional rock

Process:

• budbuilt skid and belly skids in 1/8", custom request
• Throw away supplied hardware, thread galling was occurring on the ones I got
• Cut section out around transfer case, weld on top plate, creating +1/8" clearance, paint
• Add rubber washers between plates and frame to decrease rattle

Satoshi Grill

Objective: Satoshi style grill, aesthetics

What I did:

• Emblem from 90s pickup, black SEM paint, color matched paint from automotive touchup, gloss topcoat, pinhole filler, bondo short glass fiber, glass mat
• Obtain grill insert from customcargrills.com and an black unpainted grill
• Cut out the existing crossbar with hacksaw and dremel the rest
• Reinforce the sides using bondo short fiber fiberglass resin with a couple short pieces of glass mat
• Apply bondo and sand 80/150/220/400/800 grit sandpaper
• Repeat with pinhole filler
• Scuff all plastic with 800 grit sandpaper
• Prime, I used a high fill sandable primer
• Prime, sand, prime
• Paint with SEM black
• Mask and paint top color coat of several light coats
• Apply clear gloss

Objective: Install small inverter to charge FSR radios, provide laptop power, add OEM 110V sockets front and rear

What I did:

• Obtain small inverter, 60 AMP duty relay and fuse, pontiac vibe/toyota matrix 115 switch, and pigtails AC outlet, Sienna AC outlet
• Wire the inverter to the battery, leave it switched on and control with dash switch thats visible
• Wire AC output from inverter to 115V switch
• Run outdoor extension cord from inverter to rear hatch
