Broke my driver side mirror...can I replace it? Where/how?

Ok, so I was backing up into my garage tonight and barely clipped my drivers side mirror on my 2014 Trail and the whole backing broke off, including the LED turn signal. The mirror itself never bent backwards like I thought it should of. Regardless, I need to get it replaced. Do I need to buy the whole unit? My mirror and motor are fine. I can move the mirror with no problems. Obviously, no turn signal. Where do I get the part for this and is this something a novice can do or do I need to go to the stealership? See pic of the damage....Thanks guys! I have no idea why the picture comes out sideways.

Almost did this exact thing TWICE; got lucky and didn't break anything but I had to pop it back together. When I thought for sure I had broke it I checked a few places online.

I replaced one on my neighbor's Lexus LX-460; piece of cake! I was able to get the parts e.g., mirror glass, shell, motor assm...etc on ebay for a fraction of the (Lexus) dealer parts dept cost! Here's a "How To" video on removing the 'Puddle lamp' bulbs (Toyota or Lexus) but just follow the procedure of removing/replacing the mirror glass; it's the same thing on the 4runner: https://youtu.be/FaScaGV1bbs Very easy!

PS: ...As far as painting the shell, you can have the new one painted BEFORE you install it. Just drop it off at a local body shop and give them your VIN number so they can match it up.

Thanks for all the great info. I would rather do it myself and save as much as I can for something easy. Appreciate all the tips! Seems like I just need the casing/housing and the turn signal light as the LED broke when I hit it and the puddle lamp is toast. I'm sure it's not as high quality as factory/body shop paint, but they do sell spray cans of "Duplicolor" paint in factory colors. I will likely get some to paint the silver trim on my new Trail Premium when it arrives...

I could be wrong but judging by the photo that you've posted, it looks like you'll need the whole mirror assembly e.g., mirror carriage, outer shell, motor assm (two motors; 1 for up/down 1 for L&R), Mirror glass... However, these mirror assemblies can be obtained very cheaply online because the 'Salvage yards' have joined the race to sell online too! There's a vast supply of 'Wrecked' Toyota's on these salvage supplier's stockroom shelves these days so shop around!

Thanks all. I found a "high quality" aftermarket one for $80 for the whole asseembly. I see that Partznet sells the shell already painted for about $40 so I think I will go that route. My shell only has 1 broke tab on it so unsure if I could reuse it or not, but will try. Don't need it flying off though either. Hopefully the install is as easy as they all say.

Good luck, generally when I try to save money on none OEM parts I am disappointed. They usually do not fit just right and are noticeably less quality. I just go right to OEM now.

That's what I was thinking too. I did this exact same thing in my 2000 Chevy Blazer many years back, and all that happened was the mirror assembly folded back and the paint was scratch. But I did notice the T4R is a bit--"cheap" isn't the right word, but rather "not solid" in the paneling. The sound made when the door closes (or even if you try to close it lightly, it won't close all the way), or when I wash the roof it's very thin, etc... But don't get me wrong, I am very happy with this 4Runner and wouldn't trade it for anything (except maybe a T4R Limited with a TRE body & wheels).

I find myself in the same situation, needing to replace the driver side mirror due to driver error.

Install was easy. Just had to take my time as you have to take the door inside panel off to get to the wiring. Other than that, it was just 3 screws holding it onto the door itself. Good as new and no problems.

This is sort of a related question--with backstory. So I just painted my mirrors to match the body color yesterday and after I plugged them back in and reassembled everything the mirrors don't work--as in when I push the button to adjust them they don't do anything. Also, my radio doesn't work since doing this. Never had any trouble before removing and unplugging the mirrors to paint. The Windows still operate, as well as all lights. I checked fuses but couldn't find any blown.
Has anyone run into this problem after removing and replacing their mirrors? Is there a process to reinitialize them? :shrug:

I had to do mine after a hefty tree branch reached out and grabbed it while doing about 35. I ordered the aftermarket one from RockAuto, only to have the cap arrive with all of the tabs already broken. NBD right, just pop on the original cap? No way, the aftermarkets have enough design difference that they are not compatible with OEM. So you have to pick full OEM or aftermarket assembly. OEM you can order the cap in whatever color to match your truck, aftermarkets were all paint to match which seems like a PITA comparatively. Ended up returning the RockAuto one, and buying one from ToyotaPartsOnline with the color matching cap, and paid the dealer $50 to tear off the door panel and install. I miss having a workshop where I can take on projects.
