Broken Arrow, Sedona - July 19th

Wanted to open this up to everyone that's not at the FJ Summit... We're planning a run at Broken Arrow trail up in Sedona on Sunday the 19th. If there is time, we may also take a stab at one of the other trails in the area like Greasy Spoon or Oak Creek Homestead and maybe head back out via Schnebly Hill Road. Times are still being put together and I'll update this thread as we get a more solid idea as to who's in.

ETA again: Times are getting set. Right now we're looking at the phoenix folks meeting at Einsteins Bagels off the 101 at Frank Lloyd Wright at 8:00 AM to caravan up to the Schnebly Hill Road exit near Flagstaff. CB radios are recommended for comms. We'll run down Schnebly Hill into Sedona and then figure out the rest. Right now it's a toss up between Soldier Pass first and then Broken Arrow or vise versa...

Count me in for now but I work 3-11 so I'll only have time for one potentially. Looking forward to another run with you and the others
 
I'm not the trail master here! That distinction clearly goes to [MENTION=112004]lofreqjeff[/MENTION]. I don't think there's a trail in AZ that he hasn't gone on at least once!

I got a long way to go to be able to say I've been on every trail, but I'm getting there :)

Here is my idea - Schnebly Hill is most scenic going north to south, you're traveling downhill which is much easier to navigate and giving the opportunity to enjoy more the what Schnebly has to offer.....

With that, I propose we start at the top and work our way down - Head right up to Schnebly Rd just south of Flagstaff, then down into Sedona. From there, we can go check out Broken Arrow. The end of Schnebly is just north of Broken Arrow and less a mile, so we can exit one trail and get right on the next. Then when we get back to the 179, we can decide where to go from there depending on the time. I'd like to take Megan to Soldiers Pass to see Devils Kitchen and Seven Sacred Pools - and that rails is just about a mile west of where Schnebly meeting the 179.

OR - we could do Schnebly, then Soldiers Pass then break and get some lunch somewhere in town, then hit Broken Arrow and head home down the 179 through Village of Oak Creek - maybe even stop at Chapel of the Holy Cross if anyone is interested.

Either way, I'll be coming in the 2006 4Runner because its too far of a drive to take Cecil in the heat - he doesn't perform very well on the highway when it is really hot out. This will be that rigs first actual off road trip and my first time off roading in any other rig besides Cecil in over 10 years so please excuse me if I'm not as confident on behind the wheel as usual.

Thoughts?
 
Sounds good to me[emoji106]. Either one works, however being a tubby guy we got to schedule food time in there either way. Ok back to replacing these damn serpentine belts....
 
We could meet at the Chevron off The 17 @ Carefree Hwy around....8ish? Or, since most of us are coming from the valley, we could meet somewhere closer, maybe off the 101 somewhere, there is an Einsteins off the 101 at Frank Lloyd Wright to get some bagels & coffee for the road:)
 
I think Carefree highway exit makes a good rally point for the Phoenix folks. There is also a wally world there for any last minute items. The earlier the better. If we meet at around 8:00, we'll get up there by around 9:30.

Running Schnebly Hill top to bottom will take about an hour and a half with stops for obligatory photography. So that would put us on either Soldier Pass or Broken Arrow by 11:00.

I'm making these calculations for [MENTION=78498]4Runner4TW[/MENTION] since I doubt he's going to want to drive up to I-17 just to drive back down. :-) And he has to work at 3, so that should give enough time to run at least one trail.

So... We just need to figure out which trail we're running first after Schnebly Hill...

Updates! After reading [MENTION=112004]lofreqjeff[/MENTION] 's suggestion of Einstein's bagels at Frank Lloyd Wright and the 101, I'm thinking this is a better place to meet up for the phoenix folks. Bagels and coffee sound's perfect.

What time works for everyone? Earlier is better.

Well...since we will most likely BS in the parking lot for a bit maybe plan on getting there 0700-0730 and hit the road 0800-0830?

Good point, I wasn't taking into consideration 4Runner4TW having to come up that way just to go back down....

[MENTION=78498]4Runner4TW[/MENTION] - what is your thoughts on that? Are you ok with meeting us at the top of Schnebly?

I believe it is mostly night closures which might mean we need to take a different route home.

I'm more than happy to run from Schnebly Hill north to south. I have only done it from south to north. That gives me plenty of time to run that trail with you and possibly another. It sounds like we are meeting at Schnebly Hill exit off the 17 around 9:30?
 
Also looking at the weather we have a very high chance for rain on Saturday which will bring nice cool weather for Sunday morning. It will also add a little red mud to the rigs which is always nice. Its been very cloudy up here the past week but no rain. Clouds are helping to shade it here so it feels much cooler during the day. I just drove up from Scottsdale today and boy it is hot down there!

So that would be 5 trucks at the moment. I may also have a buddy with a new Wrangler that wants to tag along... I'll see what his commitment level is tonight. So possibly 6. That's going to be a tight squeeze at the ass end of Soldier Pass.

ETA: Heep buddy is out. So that leaves the 5 of us. Anyone else? Bueller? Bueller?

Hey Jeff! My Grey '15 TE, GF and her son will see you at Einsteins on Sunday.
 
Perfect! Let's everyone try to get to Einsteins by 7:30 so we can all chat and get our bagels and be back on the highway by no later than 8:00. The goal is to be at Schnebley Hill Road by around 10:00 am and its a flat two hours from Einsteins to there. We'll obviously neglect to follow the speed limit where applicable, but still... :-)

[MENTION=100116]D Farms[/MENTION] be there by 7:00. :-)
