BudBuilt Battery Tray...

Mainly the overall output and space it takes up in the rear. Also they aren't reliable on overcast days lol. While I was out in Moab on White Rim, we had food packed for 2 days (in the ARB freezer), the food for one of those days ended up spoiling cause the batteries weren't being charged due to the fact that the sun wasn't out. Also you can't keep it running all night and then run it the following day, takes about 7 hours to fully charge one battery. Its a headache.
Might want to look into the big DieHard Platinum (31, I think). It's big, and weighs about twice the stock battery, but it runs my ARB fridge for 2-3 days without starting the 4runner in 100+ temps. My OEM battery would not last a day before the ARB cut off for low voltage. Side benefits: winch works much better and the starter motor runs full speed at -20f.
 
Small update guys...I spoke to Bud earlier and inquired about these trays, and I have to say it sounds like it's finally going to be the real deal very soon! It seems like he's pretty much in the final stages of production so I bet it's going to be done anytime now.

From what I gather (and I might have just mis-understood) this one will fit the 2010-2012 as pretty much a straight bolt-on, including a new P/S bracket built right into the tray! I won't bore you with the details because it will take me forever to try to type out, but it sounds like a very clever design and took a lot of time to come up with. Have no fear this is not just a piece of stamped steel for sure.

Also, I think the discrepancy [MENTION=51868]MeBe4running[/MENTION] mentioned earlier was a difference between the 2010 and 2011+ chassis design, and not the 2013+ air injection pump being in the way. Unfortunately, this might possibly be bad news for you 2013+ guys; but, I am NOT positive though, so let's see once we see the final production unit.

Lastly, I just have to say, now I understand why everyone says Bud is the nicest guy on earth...he truly is a great person and a huge 4runner enthusiast to boot. He's definitely a busy guy and might not always have time to respond to emails, but if you catch him on the phone he will more than patient and accommodating to all of your questions. Makes me very glad to be able to support a local business like his :usa2:
 
Don't think it will fit the 14s without rearranging a bunch of crap. The space on passenger side front and rear where others have installed a second battery is consumed in the 2014s by factory thingmabobs, almost like the engineers said whao, look at all the extra space we have here fellas...

Exactly. But there's a thingamajiggy on the space in back too!
Edit - sorry, should have reread the first page, where it was already noted the 14s are pump constrained.
Still, interested, and can probably make it work.

Group size 31 fit in the stock location? Did you replace or modify stock tray? Did you have to alter any wiring? Thanks!
 
I am definitely in the market for one. It's the last piece of the puzzle for me before I can begin my second battery install.

It is larger than the stock battery tray, however, since it is AGM, it doesn't need a tray at all, so no issue. The stock hold down clamp works fine.

You will need to bend the L shaped terminals to fit onto the larger battery. I replaced mine with standard solder lugs and added military terminals for the main posts for attaching winch, aux fuse box, etc. I don't have any pics, but this is what they look like

It's a tight fit, but no issue. I'm using fleet terminals on mine. You do need to "adjust" the terminal ends on the OEM cables.

I used my hydraulic crimper to straighten out the OEM terminal ends.
