Budbuilt Skidplates

Is there any kind of coating on the bare metal skid plates, or will they eventually rust. I see they offer powder coating, just wondering if the powdercoating is needed.
No coating as that's what bare means. You would have to paint or powdercoat them yourself or they would indeed rust.
Thanks for the response! I think it will look nice as well as be functional (obviously). Plus I love how he has added the access to get to the oil too, perfect. Guess he will have an order soon!
Not sure if the SR5/Limited/non KDSS TE ones have the oil access door or not. The KDSS TE one does but it is different and hangs down a little to accommodate the KDSS bar so there's more room for a door.

Harper,

I sent him a message but have not heard back yet, what is required for the install - as in removal? Does the whole front have to come off or is it just a simple bolt on (after removing the factory black plastic pieces)?

Thanks!
Bud put mine on originally and I took all of my oem ones off before I went there. He had ones from a newer FJ(2010) that they had already fitted but he had to modify/fabricate to fit my 4Runner. I was there practically all day as they got the fit down and installed them. Mostly FJ'S have a smaller gas tank and different brackets but the gas tank skid off a 4th GEN fit. I did take them all off and back on when I did my headers to get to the exhaust connections but the oems are out in the shed out back.

Type of metal?

I had Budbuilt skidplates fitted and installed yesterday in North Carolina while on my way back east on vacation. The differential skid, not shown in the pics fits perfect too and has to be shipped to me after powdercoating. It looked great too! I'm in Virginia , land of no radar detectors, now after a great drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway .

I took the stock skidplates off before I left home. They were all beat up and dented already.I could literally bend them with my bare hands.

They are the same skidplates he had CAD designed and laser cut out of 3/16ths steel plate for the 2010 FJ's. They only needed some minor tweaking to fit 5th Gens. without KDSS . Perfect fit now on my Limited and he just needed to fit a set to make sure.

He really needs to get a Trail Edition with KDSS in his shop in North Carolina to design the front skid as the sway bar hangs down lower then the Limited/SR5/FJ's. Beatiful drive thru the mountains!!

Bud's engineering and craftsmanship is outstanding! Truely an asset to the Toyota 4 wheeling community and has been for years making practically indestructable body armor! Great guy in person too!

Here are a few pics on the lift....

Are these the standard steel version, stainless, or aluminum?

I believe they are the standard steel. That's what I have. Bud has a thinner version of skids for "over landing".

I'm very happy with my standard steel and they are doing a great job of taking the hits underneath by truck.
