Bump's '90 4Runner

Sweet. So i think i saw that you are running chevy 63's? Did you get the hangers from the truck that the springs came from or were they something that you bought? Are you running the chevy springs in the front also? My bro in law has a blazer he is about to send to the scrap yard and im going to get his springs and im trying to see if i need to use the spring hangers from his chevy or not. Thanks again for all the info. This is going to help out alot when it comes time to start building.

I bought the hangers from ruff stuff or barnes4wd. And I'm running trail gear springs up front. Are you going to get the axles from the blazer?

I was thinking about it. My bro in law has the blazer axles. My bro has a set of disc brake 1tons from a ford that he said he would sell me. So i was thinking if im going to go full width then i might as well do it with the heavier duty axles. :noidea: Thats why im picking your brain. I dont want to have to build it twice unless its going from leaf springs to coil overs and a 4 link. Have you heard of people running the chevy springs in the front also. Did the lift from the 63's match your TG lift springs or did you have to block the rear also? There's probably a pic but i don't remember

The only issue with the big axles is weight, but if your planning on running a big tire and being rough with it then its prolly worth it. I haven't heard of anyone running front chevy springs but that doesn't mean they don't. I would find some rear Toyota springs to run in the front. I had to add a 2" add-a-leaf to get the height close to the same as the front (but the front isn't broke in nor do I have a winch or bumper yet).

What size lift springs did you get for the front. I do plan on being hard on it. We have all sorts of difficulty of trails and i would like to be able to do some rock climbing too. My bro in law reminded me that his chevy rear end already has a locker in it so i might use his still. I just have to see what he wants to trade for the axles and front and rear springs. Do you think that i can cut the hangers from his blazer or just buy that kit? This is my first 4x4 build and i have a budget being as how my wife isn't back to work yet. Im trying to flip cars to pay for my build so it doesn't come directly out of my pocket

Busted rotor

so what was the root cause of the shattered rotor?
i picked up my 94 last month for $400 due to the right front wheel locking up and causing this:

Pretty confident I found the root cause for the right front wheel seizing
When pulling the axle out I found this little gem

As far as I can tell, the bolts backed out of the caliper. Ive done a lot of brake jobs, but apparently I didn't tighten those down very good.

I finally got around to replacing the front springs bushings. I put some new energy suspension bushings in with a piece of 3/4" .120 wall DOM as a sleeve. I ended up turning the OD of the sleeve down a little on a lathe to better fit the bushings. I used RuffStuff's fixit washers to reduce the bolt hole size on the spring hanger to 1/2". I did that so it would match the Davez shackles I have.

Whats left of the TG bushing

Turning down the sleeve

The fix-it washers welded in

I used a piece of all-thread to get the sleeve inside the bushing

After I got it going, I went and crawled up a small dirt mound for....well just because I was bored lol

I was planning to build the front driveshaft this weekend, but now I have to work this weekend.

I have the 4" HD springs in the front. I don't think I would cut the hangers off. I would either buy some or build some.

One last question so i dont have to sift through your thread and possibly miss it. Did you have to run a body lift for the 4.3 to clear the dist. or did you set it forward enough to clear?

No. Im not running a body lift.

Nice. I got a dana 44 front and rear from my bro in law today with the chevy 63's and a pair of lift blocks so im on my way to starting to build. Crapy thing is the axles have 3.73's but the rear does have a locker in it so little bonus. So you have 63's in the back and 4" toyota springs in the front and which one did you have to get the add a leaf for

I finally got the front driveshaft built. I built it out of 2" and 1.5" square tubing, both 1/4" wall. I did have to grind a groove on the 1.5" tubing and run a flapper wheel on it to fit inside the 2". It was a tight fit.

I used 2 female ends to build it. I cut the splined section down to 1" long and used a grinder to make 4 flat spots in it. I had to take off about .020" off each spot to fit it inside the 2" tubing. I just used a short piece of 2" to fit the 1.5" on the ujoint.

After I installed it decided to flex it out on a log at the house. It was the biggest thing I could climb on at the time lol.

Well not too much of an update. Mainly just been driving it as much as possible, but I do have a few updates.

Added an amp so I can play music from my phone since I no longer have a head unit.

I patched up the rear heater hole and the hole I made for the cable, and then installed the shifter cover.

After riding around some trails with some friends, I decided to install a CB

Then I got this...

Which started this...

And heres the final product minus the receiver hitch (like a trail gear winch mount) and paint.

Im just waiting on a shackle receiver to come in so I can drill the hole in the receiver tube where I want it.
