Here's a link to the Firestik tech docs site...

It is worth the reading. Interesting stuff to maximize your CB range.

For example, never cut the coax. Know what interfaces should be ground and which that should be not. For example, you should scrape paint off the mounting surface of the antenna, and where it mounts to the body, the mount should be grounded to the chassis. I'm surprised when I see guys with powder coated/painted mounts.

good call baja, the firestik site has a ton of info and helped me get things set up.
the tuning and swr info is a big help.

having a painted or coated mount isn't a big deal. i just scrapped a little paint off right around the antenna mount hole
and just a little off around the holes that hit the body.
i think it's better that way than having a nasty looking rusted mount.
just make sure you use a multi-meter to test continuity between the mount and some place on the frame.

Hey guys, I just started shopping for CB's. Anyone know why more people do not purchase the "all in handset" style CB's? Are they not as good?

For example: Amazon.com: Cobra 75WXST 40-Channel CB Radio: Car Electronics

I was thinking you could mount CB box under seat or behind dash and have the handset setup with quick disconnect.

I had this one installed in my FJ and was pretty happy with it. Had the box installed behind the driver side kick panel. for antennae I had a Firestick connected with a quick disconnect. No problems at all.

unless you want the handset out all the time you have to have easy access to the control box to easily disconnect it.

other than that, should be no problem.

That's confirms it, this will be my choice for installation method. I want the CB out of site, except for when in use. Thanks guys!

It doesn't really look like much to hide? Seems too easy. Still do not understand why this method is not more popular.

The all in one handset was really popular like 5-7 years ago. Everyone seemed to have one. I think I remember hearing the construction was not great on it and they didn't have the best output.

For an occasional user I'm certain it would be fine. I'm sorta OCD about it as I use it a lot in Baja where its nice to have the longest range possible. Its super annoying when your with someone who you can't hear or they can't hear you only a few yards away :) I've been that guy many times as well. Haha .
