Buying a CB?

I happened to fill up at a gas station/truck stop today and wandered in for a Coke. I happened to find the goldmine of CB equipment. They had everything in the store as they cater to truckers. I had never thought of going CB shopping at a truck stop but when I buy a CB - that's where I am heading. They have it all!!!

Great thread SantaCruz and very nice install! I am looking to install a CB, so would you mind posting all the parts/components that you ended up using? Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I really like the Cobra 19 DXIV because it is a perfect fit for the ashtray. Do you happen to know if t4rlife has any more mounts to sell or is willing to make one to sell to me?

Also, I have been weary about installing a CB because I always thought you had to have a radio operators license in order operate one, is this true or can anyone shed some light on this? I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything illegal.

i still have couple more mounts for sale, price is 35$, as for license you only need one for ham radio, CB is open for everyone, CB also stand for civilian band, so anyone can use it.

Sure he should have some more, heres the link to buy them: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/108448-t4r4life-cb-antenna-mount-group-buy.html tell him i sent you

I dont think you need any special license, as long as you stay off the emergency channel, which is 9, you should be fine.

Hey SantaCruz, I am currently in the process of installing my CB and I have a little left over cable, did you have excess cable? If so, what did you do with it?

I had the 18 foot cable with just a little left over, and i dont know how you routed it but i went above the pedals and behind all of the side paneling. and then at the back i routed it under the truck then up throught the gap between the black cover and the bumper. how did you route yours? a little left over cable shouldnt be a big deal. just tuck it up some place and you should be fine.

Just make sure you don't coil the left over cable otherwise it will become a RF choke. Leave it loose or take up the slack along the way so that the extra cable isn't all in one place.

Thanks for the advice, I ended up finding a place for the extra cable so its not coiled at all.

Yeah drilling that hole to route to coax from the trunk was actually the hardest part because I didn't have a big enough drill bit, fortunately the Dremel was able to take care of that.

did you find the black plug on the left side of the rear of the truck? thats where i ran my cable instead of drilling i just preyed it up with a pair of players then just pushed it back down around the cable and put silicon around it.

No I looked and wasn't able to find anything like that so I just drilled the hole. Next time I'm at the hardware store I will look for a rubber grommet and try to seal it as best as I can.

hey SantaCruzRunner, first off, awesome rig! i looked through your mod list and just about every mod you have in your list, are all things that i will be doing to my rig in the next couple of months. i am going to install a cb radio in my rig here soon. im gunna do the same setup as you (if you don't mind). before i can do so, i have a few questions.
what was the roadpro fused light plug for?
prob the most important question, how did you mount the cb radio in the ash tray spot?
thanks for any help!
