Has anyone done the YouTube hack of bypassing the TPMS on your 4th gen 4Runner? My tire light is on, all 5 tires check out. Tire shop said its probably a bad sensor and they are quite expensive to replace. I dont want to tear the dash apart and cover the warning light with black tape. I found several videos on YouTube where guys jumped a couple wires on the TPMS module and that took care of the annoyance of the light always being on. Anyone here done this hack?

Ahhh yes, the lovely TPMS system that (like the education system in America) is tailored to the least common denominator in society. I dunno, I think if I was piloting a 2 ton death machine around the habitat of other sapient human beans I would attempt to make myself aware of some of the more important systems and learn how to maintain them as to not be a danger to others... But, alas too many of us in the past apparently didn't realize that if the 2 foot square patch that connects one to the road is not in optimal condition one is at risk of harm or more importantly harming others. Thus we end up with this wonderful piece of technology. I simply leave this statement here to remind those of us who might not be as attentive to the maintaining of our vehicles that fixing the TPMS system MIGHT be YOUR best bet. If you have a tire pressure gauge and a means to keep your tires in their best condition however, the following is for you.
Yea, I disconnected that crap! There is even a thread on this site that goes thru the how-to of it all. I figure if I ever sell it I can just undo what I did. Ez peazy

I bypassed my TPMS using the instructions on this forum. I have the toggle on/off switch so I can use either the factory TPMS with my main wheels/tires (ON) or the Schumacher aftermarket TPMS with my other wheels/tires (OFF) with a gauge that plugs into my lighter and gives the pressure and temp of each tire. The Schumacher sensors go on the factory valve stems, so I can easily switch them onto other wheels/tires.
[MENTION=281309]Jcmeadows82[/MENTION].....I like your attempt at sarcasm yet informative AND philosophical! Thanks for the link to the previous discussion here about this nagging problem. I pulled panel, found the 2 wires, used a blue Scotch connector and just like magic my annoyance disappeared!
Any link on what ODB2 PID codes to use with some of the bluetooth dongles to get a reading? Just did it for the transmission fluid temp but would like tire pressure as well.
