I think secretly Jeff is using krocodil and his arm is falling off...

Just got back from the ER to have the wound cleaned up. It hasn't spread- which is good, but it's still very red and hot.

Basically I have a 3/4" deep raw hole in my elbow about the diameter of a small marble. Surprisingly, it doesn't hurt very much unless I bend or extend my arm fully.

What DOES hurt? Well, they pack the wound full of a wicking material- basically some type of course gauze- to soak all the bad stuff up. And then they pull it out. Without anesthesia. And then they pack fresh stuff back in to fill the entire void. Without anesthesia. It might as well be razor wire going in there.

I didn't know I could sweat so much so fast! Other than that, it looks worse than it feels.


Dr actually gave me off the entire week because he said it is critical to rest the arm and have warm compresses.

Man- a little spider. This is no joke!

God damn that's nasty, the spider bite wound is bad too but that beard is just nasty. Glad your feeling better and no that hole in your arm can't be used as a 4runner mod to store some stuff so forget it. :thumb3:
 
Nasty little critters. I've never been bitten by a brown recluse, but my neighbor had. She managed to get by with antibiotics only but the bite area still ulcerated a little bit and it was inflamed like yours is, and it took a long time to heal.

Thing about these critters is that often you don't even feel the bite when it happens. Especially if you are sleeping.

Hope you heal okay.
 
Wow, that looks pretty rough...hope it calms down pretty quick. Unfortunately not a whole helluva lot to do for those. Get well soon!
 
Wow that looks nasty! I suppose you are on some infection killing drugs and I'll bet you were told to watch out for blood poisoning (red streaking). I believe the wound is packed so it will heal from the inside out and drain properly. I had a chest tube site get infected and it was packed much like your arm is. I had to change it and clean with sterile water several times a day. I, however, didn't have to worry about the poison from a bite.

I suggest you inspect your 4runner carefully in case you have any more uninvited guests. Perhaps even fogging with some insecticide that kills the recluse and anything else for that matter.
 
Glad you're OKAY Jeff! Fortunately it only got you in the elbow and not somewhere else more painful.

BTW, it's amazing how you can take such clear and vivid pictures of things people really don't want to see :puke:
 
Get better soon! Sh*t happens! Last year we went to Cancun, Mexico, and on the first day of a week I ended up cutting my head (the top, thankfully not my face) and ended up getting 4 staples from a very sketchy doctors in a Mexican Hospital. Get better soon!!! And yes, staples, not stitches haha.

EDIT: And yeah that definitely is a recluse. Those things are nasty and poisonous! In NC I have heard many stories of people being allergic and not making it after being bitten by one, so thank the stars!

Insecticide will not kill them very easily, those things are nasty and refuse to die. In the farm at Fuquay one of the houses like 2 miles away that everyone talks about got knocked down and had their land burned since that whole family was plagued with being in the hospital 24/7.

Y'all should go check out the show "Infested", they show personal stories like these all the time, I think it's on APL, one of my favorite shows!

It's basically a show about someone's house getting infested with Bats, other poisonous animals that range from bats to raccoon, and even scorpions, and most commonly: bed bugs, these spiders and those lovely little roaches. It shows the ER stories of the home residents and how hard it is to get rid of these pests.
 
Holy cow! I didn't even know that such a nasty spiders exist aside from the deserts far south. Hope recovery won't be too long, next time come camping in Canada - black flies don't bite that bad : )
