Adding tint film to sunroof glass.

There is a ton of speculation and legend that adding tint to the sunroof glass will cause it to crack, because heat can't escape.

However, most modern sun roof glass is already tinted relatively dark from the factory.

Heat can't escape from your side windows either and my Fluke says the glass temp of a side window and and the sun roof reach the same temp depending on the position of the sun.

Double pane house glass can be a problem, not a sunroof.

Just slide the cover shut - much cheaper. 1000% tint.

One advantage to tinting, when the glass does shatter.............um, I mean, if it were to shatter, you won't get showered with a million pieces of glass :clap2:


35% here, didn't want to darken it too much.......................

If you're really worried about it I would go with a ceramic tint coating. The nano ceramic material is supposed to help with heat dispersion and block UV.

heat = increase in air volume with heat expansion

My dad grew up in a small military town near Death Valley. Everyone kept their windows cracked for 8 months out of the year so they wouldn't explode.

Had mine tinted in in my previous 4runner; it lasted 2010-2015, no issues.

I could explain it but nobody would care. Just know you have a much bigger chance of no shatter and a small but real chance of shatter by tinting your sunroof.

I care:wave: Mine is ceramic tinted and is parked on black asphalt at work with the windows all the way up. I'm reckless that way:biggrin2:
