Calling all k02 owners 265 vs 275 ?

First time poster. First time 4runner and Toyota owner. Just bought a 2016 SR5 and this is the first mod I am doing. I want to get the stock Dueller pos off so I can sell them "new" at 11/32.... I will be posting those on the classifieds here as soon as I get my new tires on.

It took quite a bit of digging, but I finally found THIS thread. This is THE thread on the 265/270 difference. I can't thank you guys enough for all this information, especially the pictures. It has helped me finally come to a decision (that actually shouldn't be that hard considering the minute differences).

I know everybody's situation or reasoning is different, but I figured I would share my 2 cents on why you guys convinced me to go with the 265s since I really have no immediate intention on getting a lift, if ever.....

My reasons to get the 275:
They look cooler > seriously, to me, they look way better. Maybe it's in my head.

My reasons to get the 265:
Less chance of rubbing, especially during compression
Less stress on suspension
Less stress on the entire power train
Better MPG
Less harsh ride
I can keep the stock spare, instead of having to purchase a 5th ko2 or a used 275/70/17

Whether you decide on 265's or 275's, we know that's personal preference and likes. Each of us must do what the voice in our head tells us! :lol:

Some of us have a little different view on the 5th (spare) tire.
I want to have at least as good a tire for a spare that I have on the other 4, definitely don't want anything inferior.

It's like seeing a jeep wrangler without a lift running 34-35 inch tires. Ya they fit, and they look good to people that don't offroad and just want them for show, but to the rest of us that use their vehicles for offroading - they just looked stuffed.

Now its not in the same ballpark as above, but same concept. 265's look right (for stock ride height, or leveled) for achieving the articulation you want. 275's look too large to me, but the mall cruisers dig'em

And I highly doubt that anyone debating between 265's and 275's and wondering if the C's plys will hold....yes they will hold against the mall curbs your hitting.

I went with the 275's....

The tire dealer gave me $250 for my stock tires with 5500 miles on them. I might have been able to get more from them selling them on my own, but didn't want to deal with the hassle of Craigslist, etc..

The first thing I bought after my new 4Runner was Bilstein 5100 series shocks. I HATED the stock shocks (nose dive, etc.)!! They sat in the garage for about 3 months, until I could afford the new tires. A couple weeks ago I had everything installed. I think the 4Runner looks better and I know it rides WAY BETTER!! I noticed about a 1gpm drop in mileage. I can live with that!!

Just threw 265/70/17 C on my '13 LE (bought some '15 Trail wheels off a neighbor who upgraded to TRD on purchase). The truck looks great and the ride is noticeably better than the OE 20" wheels with OE Yoko rubber.

I went to 275s and notice maybe a half a mile per gallon drop and ZERO decrease in acceleration. The ride feels the same as it did with 265s but with better grip. I got bored, lifted my 4runner and went to 285s and notice a little drag in acceleration and again maybe a half a mile per gallon drop... Oh and I still used a 265 spare when I had 275s, didn't change until I went 285

I'll throw this in the mix. The manager at a national branded tire store told me he would give me the 275's if I really wanted them but would void the warranty so he doesn't have to deal with any issues down the road.

His reasoning was "Your car doesn't weigh enough to properly run these tires (The E rated 275). At 10,000-15,000 miles you will start getting some really bad cupping or feathering and odd wear and your tires will essentially be crap"

Paraphrased of course. How do you guys feel about that?

I ended up going with the 265's cause seriously these two tires might as well be the same size. The real difference is in the E vs C rating. I won't ever be in a situation where you would be like "Ah man, I wish I had that extra .5 inches" nor do I care if I have E vs C.

This is BS.
You own a truck not a car. (It has a frame not some unibody)
Any tires inflated to the improper pressure will experience wear issues.
Any size LT tire requires inflation to a pressure that will carry the load of the vehicle instead of a standard 32psi.
What that specific pressure is varies by manufacturer and tire size, but is easy to figure or obtain from your tire dealer.
If your normal load is below the min psi rating for the tire under load then you will experience different issues, however, an empty 4Runner exceeds the load rating for min psi on 275's.
Inflating E load rating tires to max psi and putting on a 4Runner will cause issues, but you should never inflate any tire to its max psi unless your actual load weight requires it!

Check the other KO2 thread, most of us with 275's are running 35-42psi adjusted for normal loads, and ride preference (37psi for me).
Personally I would run away from this dealer as he doesn't know what he's talking about.

EDIT: I have 15432 mi on my 275's and have only normal wear and tear on the tires.

I put 275's on the second day i owned my 16 TEP and I don't regret it at all. Would i likely have liked the 265's just as much? Probably. Doesn't mean i don't like the 275's I can say when you put them next to the 265's there is a difference.

I struggled with the same decision and must have read about a million threads to realize how dumb I was haha 6 months later and I havent thought about it since. I went 265 and love them. I get compliments all the time on my "big tires" ha. They do give the truck an entirely new look. I didnt think the drop in mileage, acceleration, or performance was worth it to ME. But to each his own, get the ones you want and dont think about it again.

The main reason I did not go for 275 is that I try to keep the geometry of my 4Runner stock. The stock of-road abilities are good enough for me. With 265 tires the suspension and drive line works exactly as it was designed in the factory. It gives me a piece of mind that famous Toyota reliability is not compromised by my uneducated modifications.

I replaced stock Duelers (hated them so much) with KO2 265 C rated and I am as happy as I can be.

I've got 6112's on the front end set at 1.25" and 5160's on the rear with stock springs. Just went for the level.
