Calling all V8 owners that want a high flow Y-pipe!!! I can do it. Need your help!

why do people need this y-pipe?

i understand ground clearance if that is in fact a problem but see no other reason

Nobody needs it but here are some pluses that I see:

Stainless steel construction and less restriction because the factory crossover has a tube inside of a tube (Its more restrictive than it looks from the outside).

If it is indeed raised up more than the factory y pipe, aftermarket skid plates could be mounted perfectly flat with the frame crossmember gaining you around an inch of extra clearance which is like going up 2" in tire diameter at that point on the skid plate.

It would go great with a supercharger.

seeing that your in california i dont see how your system rusted apart. from the pics you posted i would have thought your 4r was brand new. what about emissions?

ill wait a few months until i see these "long" tubes.

The original owner spent a majority of his time in Lake Tahoe, California. A lot of the exhaust components and hardware was rusted with close to 200k miles on it.

I live in a rural part in the county that does not require annual emissions testing

Are Long Tube Headers really in the Works?

did you notice any gains?

The regular shorty headers I sell give 32 HP gain on the dyno and around 34 ft lbs of torque! Yes, I posted a dyno of this before in the one post. It's insane how restrictive the factory headers are! Then, I sell people the magnaflow high flow cats, which add another 7HP per cat! for about 14 more. The new long tubes have resonators in them, and aren't for states where people need to run cats

if you want to pass emmisions you will need shortys and weld in your existing or new cats. $500 for a y-pipe is too much for me for a 16 year old vehicle. an 03-04 aftermarket SS rear converter has a real y-pipe that is at least half the price with an expensive cat

Just to show you. This is the crossover pipe cut in half. It it a double wall pipe with an internal 1" pipe.

on a stock motor an oem cat will flow just as well as any "high flow" cat

+30 hp and +30 tq is misleading unless there is another dyno graph out there I haven't seen.

With VVTI,

At 78mph, you do get a gain of +35 tq and +32 hp, but the difference between the max hp is +11 hp and max torque is +18 tq.

So I'm not the only one? Hopefully people aren't thinking their runners will make close to 300hp with these headers. There is a gain with those numbers but it's at a random part of the curve, NOT peak horsepower. I agree, that claim is a bit misleading.

My phone doesn't display the picture I quoted, but my computer does for whatever reason. 38851 is the exact tube I'm talking about and quoted a picture of. Seems pretty clear to me its double-walled.

That's not true. Just isn't. I'll bet you a set of cats Not with DT headers installed. I'm only talking about with headers installed.

Screw all of this. I’m just going to design and build my own headers and y-pipe for my truck. Full vband from the collector on the headers, back. I’ll throw in a flex pipe with a magnaflow cat behind it.

I have a couple of slick ideas, once I do my bumper. I’ll post everything up later this year.
