car and driver?

Talk about car mag guys. I posted at IHMUD with a thread on the KDDS system on the GX470 and what these Toyota/Lexus off road guys thought of it and had they driven one. The only response I got so far was from a member that worked for 4 wheel off road mag. It had pictures of a GX470 that he drove on a Magazine outing and his comment was that it drove pretty good but he only drove it in "TWO WHEEL DRIVE" and then he said some of the other Magazine members took it out and got it stuck in the mud and the traction control was a disappointment since it got stuck in the mud?? The picture showed the GX470 had street tires on it. I don't care if you have lockers on all corners on any vehicle, it ain't goin nowhere in the mud with all season street tires. These are the kind of people that after this type of outing go back and write the articles we get to read. UGH!! :(

Huh?? You must have typed your response before seeing my post. Please READ MY POST AGAIN ABOVE. Feel free to bash Jeeps!:D

Note: this forum is being financed solely by Gatorgreg...out of his pockets. The only income he gets from this forum is selling the stickers (at cost!) and the little advertisements that you see on the forum page. I wish that Jeep or Toyota finance us!!! I would be somewhere in the Carribean by now!:D

Toyotadude77 was not only a troll, but he was extremely rude and insulting to everyone! I would love a troll, but not one that insults every member with profanity. I gave him a lot of leeway, including plenty of warnings, before finally axing him. :(

Sorry guys I was typing my response the same time Thai was typing his so I didnt get a chance to read it before posting mine. I apologize to Gatorgreg. Let the Jeep bashing live on!

If my hood scoop and A/C controls are the worst they could find than D@MN! I have the greatest SUV on the planet
But these sorts of things are real important to Soccer Moms. Perhaps they should rename the mag to Car and Soccer Mom; Martha Stewart could have a column offering car interior decorating tips.

Magazine members took it out and got it stuck in the mud and the traction control was a disappointment since it got stuck in the mud??
Pretty pathetic that someone working for an offroad mag doesn't understand the situations where traction control/locking diffs are or aren't of help.

Jeep just does a better job of marketing and that's all this C/D article was, marketing. That's all C/D is, a marketing business. The have some good editorials, better than most but their test drives are just advertisements. And they do a good job of that. I have a subscription, but I can't remember why. And, again, they don't have to take the vehicles home and make payments. It's kind of like flying on an airline where the pilots fly you from the ground, by remote control. What do they care if they get something wrong. You're the one going for the long ride, they just have to make it to the next month. And look at a lot of the cars they test. It's just intertainment. How many of 'us' are going to drive a $100k German car with the reliability of a Yugo? Do you think they stoop to reading a forum like this...not. We're not into marketing, just self indulgence and that's a lot more fun and does not cost as much. And you have to give credit to Mercedes for digging up the Hemi, something the public and the magazines just love. Mercedes has learned the lesson from Chrysler. You don't have to have quality to have a good car.

ROTFLMAO!

You can laugh all you want, but most people don't agree with you.... because if they did, people would not buy Car and Driver and they would not be the best-selling automotive magazine.

Obviously, most people value their opinions and don't think they're biased.

Unfortunately, many of Toyotadude77's posts were offensive. Each one of us (admins & mods) have day jobs and families. Therefore, we do not have the luxury of time to go through each and every post of his to edit out the content.

Until that time comes when we have 24/7 coverage, the admins/mods are doing our best to cover the forum and read most posts, especially the recent ones by Hitman.;):

Don't you guys have the ability to delete just his POSTS? In other words, just his specific posts, not entire threads??

My only gripe is that we can lose information that other members post when you delete an entire thread because of 1 banned member.

The Hemi Jeep is no jacked-up race car. The numbers (mid 15s in the quarter) I'm seeing are pretty sorry for the HP advantage it has. I'd like to see all the 2005 V8s line up and be heard. I think allot of people would be surprised at the differences.

As far C&D being biased, it doesn't get any worse. Most comparisons say that the only differences from the GC redesign are the added power. This means, they will still have reliability problems. C&D is definitely THROWING THE 4RUNNER UNDER THE BUS to try and make the CG look better. All you have to do is look at ALL the other comparisons and it's clear what C&D's intent is. The reasons for their decision is proof, hood scoop in the way, dash controls are what? If I were the owner of that mag. I'd be embarrassed. If you're going to throw the competition under the bus, at lease come up with something that is a problem. I'm surprised they didn't say the reliability is questionable. I have no problem with an opinion but to make silly shit up and rate a GREAT vehicle so low is downright unacceptable. My way of protesting is to NEVER pick-up another C&D again. What purpose would I have to read anything they have to say, when I know that they are not rating vehicle based on its qualities.

So Car & Driver, if you

Hitman, i see you're contentious nature has taken you over again. Nobody has decided to ditch C$D for good because the runner came out on the bottom of their comparison test. We do not think they're biased because the runner lost (5th out of 6 places), but because the reasons they gave to fault the runner are all obvious bs. you admitted that yourself a few posts back, that the hood scoop was a none issue. If they were to offer legitmate reasons for dumping on the runner and praising the cherokee, then none of us would complain, even though the runner lost. But that is not the case, by the utterly stupid and desperate flaws they faulted the runner with, we now know that they either 1.) have extremely weird driving habits, postures, and methods that are completely at odds with 90% of americans; but they're still honest at least or 2.) they're intellecutually dishonest, couldn't fault the runner for anything, but had to let the JGC and the Nissan triumph over it, so they gave some hillarious reasons to cut the runner. But i guess you still think they're not biased, to each his own opinion.

Actually, someone has posted that he will ditch C&D forever.... and it sure seem the reason is because he believes they are biased.

Yes, I admitted that the hoodscoop is a non-issue... but then I said that I understood their opinion after I read the article and it explained that the hoodscoop became an issue when cresting a hill and trying to see back down the other side. Although I don't drive off-road, I can totally see their point.

Sorry, but I still don't see the bias here... I just see sour grapes from 4Runner owners that their vehicles didn't get the praise that it deserves. Now that I think about it, C&D mentioned that the 4Runner was expected to finish higher than it did. They actually had some very good things to say about the 4Runner, but everyone here can only focus on the negative stuff.....

Hitman, i am going to try to explain it AGAIN:

If i were to delete LARRY's first post in this thread, THE WHOLE THREAD WILL BE DELETED, regardless of anything. That's how the system works. So, i cannot work around this...again, if i delete the FIRST post by Larry in this thread, the whole thing disappears.

I fully understand that. But my point is that it should be possible to delete ONLY his posts, even if in a thread started by him.

Kinda sucks that everyone who contributed to a post loses their posts because the entire thread got deleted.

So, from what i am reading, you are willing to fork over some cash to buy a new server with up-to-date functions?? That's what i am reading! :D

Seriously, i don't know how.

I agree. It is stupid to delete the whole thread. Personally, I don't think that you shouldn't have banned toyotadude77. His post on where to find the 2003 manuals was really helpful when I installed the autodimming mirror function.

One option is, if the post in a thread can not be easily deleted, we may edit the post to empty the content, or put a word 'too good to post'. That would be 'logically' delete the post without deleting the whole thread.

This can mean a lot of work. No one like to see this happen again.

So, Rupert, for your one benefit, we should keep Toyotadude77 around while he insults the rest of the forum??!! Yeah, that will go well with the other members...do you know how many complaints we got through our PM box from members about toyotadude77??!!!

The benefit of the forum overrules the benefit of one. Sorry.

Are you gonna pay my salary for being away from my work to clean up this forum 24/7??:D Seriously, you have a good point, but we do not have the manpower nor time to look over every individual post of banned members.

Example: If i were to ban you, then i would have to look over 50+ posts from you and reading every single one. Then i have to make sure that your none of your posts are start of a thread. This means that i have to read every post by you and ponder it over, judging it's "value" on the forum. That's just too time consuming. Now, can you see how much work is involved??

Another example...one day, I get banned from this forum. Are you willing to read every single 3800 posts by me??

Sorry, I (nor any other mods/admins) do not have the luxury of time to do it.

To end further discussion on this topic:

- This may surprise you all, but this forum is a hobby of admins and mods. We have regular lives of our own. We have day jobs. We have families. We do not make a living serving this forum. Really.

- With the exception of Gatorgreg, none of us gets paid for this.

- We (admins/mods) do not have the time to go over every posts of a banned member.

- This forum software does NOT allow for customization when banning a member...all or none principle.

- Lastly, I am truly sorry if a few valuable threads got deleted due to someone being banned.

P.S.: Less complaining and more discussion on C&D's comparo...we need more Jeep bashing! :D
