Car buying advice

Okay - turning to the forums for advice.

My 1994 4Runner died after 220k miles and 17 years of faithful service (may she rest in peace).

So I bought a 2012 FJ Cruiser for something different... And I didn't like it.

So I traded it in for a 2012 4Runner, fell back in love and thought that was the end of the story.

Now my wife drives the 4runner and I'm stuck with a 2003 Honda Pilot.

It doesn't make sense to have 2 4Runners in the family, so I started looking at pickups. I like the Tundra, but it's big and pricey.

While looking I found a fully loaded Nissan Titan for a great price.

Anyone know anything about the Titan? Do I abandon Toyota? Is it wrong to own a 2 4Runners? What other vehicles should I be looking at?

Try asking on a Titan forum for info on the Titan.

There is nothing wrong with having 2 T4Rs if you really like them.
 
The titan is a huge huge hunk of crap. Its very old (hasn't been updated or redesigned since 2004, when it came out. I say trade the pilot and get a 4R.
 
I had a 2007 Titan Crew Cab SE with the Offroad package. I absolutely loved that truck- except for the fuel mileage. I had to TRY to get 12 MPG. That got old really quick.

Now the good stuff- That truck is a beast! The engine/tranny combination is flawless. It's always in the right gear at the right time and never lacks for power; very sorted out powertrain. No lie- if I floored it (even while towing my boat!) I could completely smoke the 33" tires off the rims.

Plenty of room inside- a little cheap with the plastic- but comfortable and roomy.

If you need THAT MUCH truck- go for it. Otherwise you will start to feel like you are just wasting gas lugging around alll that muscle, IMO.

I've already discussed the 2x T4R household with my better half and she's game. Now I just have to wait until the time is right. :hungry:


OP - do you have the specific needs of a truck? I got a Titan as a loaner when my Z was in the shop. I drove it all over town and took care of a bunch of chores and loved it (and yes I had to fill up the tank after only 2 days). I like the Tundra a lot too, but I just don't see myself getting the use out of it.
 
I just have to wait until the time is right.

I have owned/own 3 Nissan's. All good vehicles. Friend of mine owns a Titan and his father also owns a Titan. Ones black and ones blue. They obviously love the trucks. So why not 2 4Runners? I have my 2011 and my daughter now drives my 1997 4Runner.
I think the Tundra and the Titan are too big. At least they would be for me. So the Taco would be a nice vehicle if I were to buy a pick up truck.
 
I've read pros and cons regarding the Titan--older truck and not updated like F-150 and Ram.

Regardless, remember these pickups are HUGE and eventually you will tire of "mooring" the boat every time you park. I've owned a Ram 1500, Tacoma, Ridgeline and an F-150.

For every day ease of use, the Tacoma and Ridgeline were the most pleasant. Tacoma offers great resale, decent mileage and fun to toss around factor.

That said, nothing wrong with a couple of 4Runners. Love mine.

So your old 4Runner craps out, you search and buy an FJ, then trade for another 4Runner and love it....

But you suddenly find yourself NOT driving it? The wife gets what she wants eh? Maybe that's why most of my cars have been vehicles that my s/o would not really "want" to drive (like the 5th Gen T4R).

You are a good man...staring at the truck you want to be driving as you hop-in the Honda...domestic tranquility is a good thing I guess. :peace:
 
The '13 Pilot is a good idea as long as the wife is going to be driving it.

If you want a full size pick up then the Tundra would be my choice (I'm not a fan of anything Nissan) but as mentioned above it is a bit large and a bit more difficult to park. Before the 4Runner I had a 2nd gen Tacoma and absolutely loved it! It's "midsized", the double cab has plenty of room for the family and it's a pick-up so you can haul your junk around. :boink: Go take one for a test drive and I think you'll agree. I highly recommend it!! In fact I've been considering buying another one as a second vehicle.
