cargo liner with double decker question

Im a little confused about the cargo liners for the 4th gen with the double decker. Since the double decker basically folds flat can you just put the liner on top of it when it is in the down position, and slide it underneath when it is in the up position?

I see most companies specify with or without the double decker.

For the double-decker, there are two kinds of liners -- one for the shelf, the other for the floor underneath. If you put the shelf down, the liner that goes on the floor doesn't quite reach the back seats (at least mine doesn't). If you keep the shelf down all the time, you could use a regular cargo liner, but the shelf lies on top of the floor, so there is about a 1" to 1-1/2" drop-off from the shelf to the floor.

Sounds like if I get the liner for the floor I could theoretically use it both ways? I can live with the liner not reaching all the way to the back seats. How short is it? more than 2 or 3 inches?

Husky Cargo liner

autoseattle.com has one. husky cargo liner for 2003+ with double decker in down position. Just ordered one for myself.

The double-decker doesn't really fold flat. In the down position, the floor surface is still a couple of inches above the area between the back door and each wheel well (where the cargo tie-dows are). Most cargo liners/mats that are for the double-decker are smaller than those that are not for the double-decker so that they're not "hanging over" those two spots without any support underneath.

Wouldn't there be a problem using a regular-sized cargo mat with the DD sytem when the DD shelf is in the up position? I thought that when the DD shelf is raised, there is sort of a gap of unused spaced behind the second row seat where the shelf sort of hinges into place. Instead of fitting against the second row seatback, the mat would be up against this "false" seatback.

If this is so, a regualr-sized cargo mat would be too long to fit on the floor when the DD shelf was raised, perhaps preventing the hatch from closing.

I use a WeatherTech cargo liner and I think it's about 4" to 5" short when the shelf is down (which it rarely is).

Yes, I believe a regular size would be too long. But instead of preventing the hatch from closing, it would probably just buckle or roll up the mat.

I bought the WeatherTech kit for my 2004 runner. I am pleased with the front and middle mats, but the rear cargo liner is not what I envisioned in terms of fit.

I now understand after reading this post that there is the 4" space between the back side of the rear seat and the front of the liner so that the cargo shelf can be up with this mat underneath. I don't foresee ever using the cargo shelf (who uses that thing?) so, I have some carpet area exposed in the rear.

What I wanted (and thought I ordered) was a cargo liner that would cover the entire back cargo area. Not the case.

It looks like the Husky liner is a better rear cargo liner in terms of overall coverage.

I have the huskey liner for double deckers. It has deeper recesses behind the wheel wells to accomodate the higher floor height.

In the double decker up position, you have to roll the back of the liner under the shelf to make it fit. In the double decker down position, it goes flush with the back of the seats.

I haven't used my double decker in over a year.

Here is my Weathertech.
I bought the one for the non DD system even though I have the stupid DD. Mat works just fine and covers everything. the 1'' drop on the sides don't bother me. I got bigger things to worry about.
