OK- Here are some pics of where my handset exits. I will update my thread with these pics later...
Lid latched shut.
You have to trim the lid a bit, and the hole for the latch if you want it to exit on the drivers side. The passenger side already has a dent moulded in for the wire...
In order to be able to see the display when the handset is hanging, I fabbed up this bracket spacer to get the angle correct...

I like that location Antman... keeping it on the driver side will reduce some of the spousal complaining.
I've also started wondering how much of a PITA it would be to simply create a longer cable from the control box to the handset connection point. While I like your location (it doesnt care about the crap in the storage box), I dont think the cable is long enough to be grommet mounted there either.

My lid latches, no cutting required. Toyota engineers were smart enough to put that little cutout in the lid to allow for a cable to exit.

alrighty.... one bloody right hand again and the power and ground are through the firewall. Now just need to run them to the center tunnel and stick a fuse in the slot.
Had to swing by radio shack since they gave me the wrong stereo adapter (2.5 mm to 3.5mm)... got that corrected and asked about a cable so I could extend the connection to the handset... guy looked like I was asking for moon dust.... really?.. What ever happened to RADIO shack actually having electronic and radio related part!?!?.. now it looks more like the phone and RC car warehouse!
RG316 cable should be here tomorrow... hope to get that run tomorrow evening.
See... Don't need no stinkin' first aid... I've got a forum to post to!

BTW Okki- that handset is not a standard connection since the unit is all in one. I doubt you will find an extension, unless Cobra makes one...

Because I have a switched power auxiliary fuse-box there that I use for my roof lights etc. That way I can minimize the number of tap-a-fuse in the cab. plus that's what I installed the darn auxiliary fuse-box for in the first place! LOL
sheesh Philly2d... don't let the insecurity shine through... I'm still exploring the options on the CB (I found another one.. see pic below)... but rest assured that your G27 mount is the only one I'll consider for my G26!
The control box fits on the other side of that brown connector (under the storage box). in that location you can use 3M tape to secure it to the storage box AND the cable is long enough to have the plug be accessible inside the corner where Antman drilled his hole. Haven't checked yet to see if the grommet fits there, but it looks promising so far.

My control box is directly below where you have it (more under the center console), so you should have room. I drilled into the center console from the passenger side because it's about the only place I could fit my drill at a perpendicular angle. I like Antman's install, but I use the coin tray for all the stupid parking meters here in the DC area...
EDIT: The other option I considered was below the rear window switch on the transmission plate. I wasn't sure if I wanted to commit to that, though. In the end I think I'm glad with where I mounted it because it's out of the way.
Hey Ryan, that will be tomorrow evening. I should also have my remaining cable then so hopefully it's not just the mount, but also pulling some interior panels and running that cable.

uhmmmm... turns out Cobra makes a 4ft (coiled) extension cord. Amazon.com: Cobra AC 702 4-Foot Microphone Extension Cable: Car Electronics
That would allow me to return back to my original plan and come out of the center console cubby hole. I've also been thinking about getting a 2ft firestik for around town.. Philly2d, can you please check and see how far over the roof you would end up if you measured 2 feet from the base of the antenna?

The K400 is compatible with the C110 extension cable (10FT): Diamond C110 Extension Cable for K400 and K601 Mounts
I used the K400 + the C110 and had plenty to get to the center console.
