CB radio Antenna mount?

So i would like to mount my antenna on the rear end on the lift gate or around the taillight. Does anybody know where i can find a mount to do this? or pictures of theirs? and also If someone can make a custom one, i will buy it! Please help! Thanks!

Also look at the comet rs 720 can be mounted to the hatch without drilling holes or scratching paint. I think it's about $35 but it's nice and solid, I've done highway speeds with a 5' whip several times, I no longer have it because I got rid of my CB. Zstampe has it now I think.

Yes, I'd definitely recommend it. It was very strong and didn't leave any scratches or marks on the hatch after I removed it. It has a U shaped clamp that pinches down on the hatch lip with 4 set screws.

You can also run the cable (if you get a cable with a removable end connector) through the hatch if you want a really clean look. Just enlarge one of the drain holes slightly (I think about 1/8") and run through the factory loom the rest of the way to the console.
 
What kind of SWR reading can you get using this mount?

I have a Wilson 1000 roof mount kit that I removed from my 2010 4Runner. I was debating either drilling a hole behind my roof rack up on top and using the Wilson or perhaps getting one of these RS-720's.

For those that have used the RS-720, which antenna and cabling works best with it?

I plan on doing more research on the forums regarding this mount, just figured though since it was brought up, I might as well ask. Thanks

I tuned mine, I got it "good enough" through some fiddling but never got an SWR reading.

I used K40 Coax with Removeable FME Connector so I could pass it through smaller holes (~1/4" IIRC). I picked it up at a local truck stop cheaper than in the link.

Comet makes a cable specifically for the mount and it will pass through an even smaller hole but I believe it was $40 for the cable or $70 for the cable & mount combo.

There is a drain hole in the hatch that will allow the k40 to pass through with a tiny bit of enlarging. The Comet cable may pass through without enlarging.

I don't know if the rs-720 will work with the wilson 1000 because it mounts so close to the hatch, but it might, or might with an adapter.

The taller the better... I used a 5' and it stuck about 6-12" above the roof line.

Ideally you would put the antenna on the roof in the center to get the furthest/best reception, but if it's on the hatch it should at least be above the roof line and the higher the better.
 
i have everything but the mount and i'm ordering it now. But does it attach to the lift gate? and if so do i have to run the wire from the top of the trunk? also will the antenna hit the car when the gate is lifted? thanks for the help.

Yes it does, it clamps on to the lip of the lift gate, next to the brake light.

It's best to run wires inside the hatch from the top downward (to the drain hole I mentioned earlier, which will have to be enlarged slightly), but some just run it down the outside of the hatch between the lip of the lift gate and the body. It has to be run from the top though otherwise the hatch wouldn't open

It hit my Yakima rack when I had my 5' but I don't know if a 4' will even hit. I don't think it would've mine if I hadn't had the roof rack anyway. It didn't hit hard though, just when raised all the way up it would lay down on the rack. It didn't smack it hard or anything.
 
after seeing this mount on gaterose & zstampe i ordered one, so adjustable it can be mounted many places. i had a cobra magnetic one but it scratched the roof too much, so i just used the same antenna on the comet.

Do you have a picture of it on your ride? and can you give detail of the wiring? Is it possible to mount under the taillight? Thanks!
