CB radios and mounting.

Thanks guys, but I don't think that I'll be making any others to sell. I would have to make the internal brace to go with the mount and it only works on '06-'09 4Runners because of the shape of the bumper under the taillight.

I did end up changing my ground from the frame to the body and I'm hoping that it will improve my SWR. I used a bolt on the hatch bumper and, yes, it's a very good ground! I'll check my SWR later, but here's how it ended up.

hey doozi looks great

on your support if you make a angled piece from your mount to the "3r" in the first picture it will add even more support kind of like making a "a" brace
worked on mine
just my 2cents
 
Thanks crashman! I was thinking about going a little further out and using that top bolt on the black plastic bumper support... might eliminate the rest of my wiggle.

Thanks Acidmeld! I was thinking about your hood mount option, but there's not much room at all for the coax to come through that gap. Are you getting any rubbing on the edge of the hood or fender?

BTW, my SWR has improved slightly... the highest is down from about 2.7:1 to just about 2.2:1... testing in the same location.
 
I wanted to get a comet mount, but I'd much rather use some of my scrap metal to make myself a mount. I'm gonna see what I can conjure up!
 
I started to try to make a mount out of 1"x1/8" steel I bought at home depot...

It turns out that the 06 bumpers are different from my 05 as far as the bumper below the tail light goes.

This is as far as I got for the night... Sigh.

hey guys, its been awile, I've been awfully busy. I have my antenna mount pretty much figured out and setup, but I'm having some trouble with power to the CB. I bought a mini add-a-circuit, and plugged in into the fuze box under the steering wheel. I used the fuze on the top next to the 4wd fuze. The fuze gets power, and I grounded to tho nut on the bottom of the console. Unfortunately, I turned the car on, and nothing. I already had the add-a-circuit crimped to the power cable for the CB, so I coudnt test anywhere along that cable... so I don't know where I went wrong HELP! I think plugging the add a circuit straight into the fuze box is ok, and the back of the add a circuit has some openings, 2 of which are hot and 2 of which are not... whey look like places where you could plug in additional "add-a-circuits" anyone know what I'm talking about or how to help? If not ask what more I could explain?

I had the same problem with an add-a-circuit when I was trying to wire up my accent lighting. I wired everything the correct way! Why doesn't this friggin thing work!?

So right after I posted this I went back down to the car to fiddle again, I cut a piece of wire from another project, and put it in between one of the hot outputs and the cold outputs of the add-a-circuit, the CB turned on, and seemed to work fine. So my ground is good and the power is good! All i have left to do is finish the antenna and PA speaker mounting, connect em up (tune if needed) and I'm trail ready!:hungry::hungry:

It does say on the packet not to plug directly into a fuze, only into a fuze block ( I think) which is why I was worried... I'll post up pictures tomorrow:lookout: of how I remedied my situation, and then hopefully it will work for others!

Please do! I ended up tapping off of my cigarette lighter to wire my interior lights. I want safer, fused power for my cb though

My add-a-circuit had two fuse slots... one is for the circuit you're adding and the other is for the circuit you're borrowing power from. They're made that way for instances when you don't have an empty location in your fuse block. I just put an additional fuse in.

The '06+ models have a flat, vertical area just below the tail lights, the '03-'05 models are sloped. Compare his pics to mine... you'll see that flat area.
