yea I might widen the vents without doing the modulation change and wait to hear about mobile amps looks like a good option and the ones you linked to are priced well! 40 bucks for the 35-70 watt amp! My T4r is in the shop getting the actuator replaced under warranty and they gave me sequoia so I dont have access to mess with my cb

First of all; A SEQUOIA!? You're paying about as much in gas as you would for the actuator lol.

I'm gonna order the amp soon and I sure hope it's worth it! Sure the FCC might have banned them, but I'm "doing research" with it! :wink:

Oh they're completely illegal for use with a cb but that doesn't mean they're going to know or do anything.

I took the option to pay 4 bucks for every 15 instead of fill gas. That's the only cost to me so I don't think it's a big deal

I splurged and bought myself a 50/100 watt amp with a preamp and 26db of gain! arty:

All for $75 plus shipping! Worth it.

Now to wait for the damn Kentucky Derby to be over so they can ship on the 7th...:smashputer:

I got my RM Italy 100w amp today and I decided to install it while there was a break in the rain.

I had some issues with making the amp fit properly. I would have loved to hide it in the center console next to my CB, but I need to have access to the switches, and I need to mount it in a location where it can cool itself properly.

I ran a coax cable from the radio to the amp under the carpet from the center hump to the air vent under the drivers seat.

Then I ran my antenna coax under the carpet from the doorsill to the air vent under my seat.

I made my positive and negative connections..

And here is the final product with full access to the switches, plenty of air for cooling, and all the while hiding the amp from view.

No one was on the radio tonight, but when I get to use it, I'll tell you all what I think of this RM Italy amp!

So for all that have done the door jamb mount, does it get in the was of the tailgate when opened? I am ordering my firestik and looking to start wiring this week, however I want to make sure I can leave the antenna on and still open the hatch.

I have no issue on mine :shrug:

Yours was custom though right and clears the side of the truck? I like the look of the door jamb mount but I want to make sure it clears the flange above the tail light on the tail gate.

I started with the FireStik door jamb mount and it did hit the tail gate. I had to pull outward on the antenna while opening or closing the tail gate. It's not terrible, but it bugged me enough that I made my own mount that moved the antenna out about another inch.

Yea mine was custom. I just bought metal from home depot and spent 15 mins with a propane torch and "universal persuasion apparatus" to bend it into the shape I needed

Drilled a hole into the bumper mount

Found hardware that would work

Attacked with hammer and torch

Cut and painted with Rustoleum rust inhibitor.

Final thing with the Firestik twist mount (can rotate 90 degrees)

I honestly don't even notice it in the mirror. It's too close to the body of the vehicle to be of any concern, but it's galaxies away from the tailgate!

Just realized I never posted a pic of my mount so here it is:

Firestik door jamb painted with hammered black rustoleum. antenna grounded to metal inside the rear compartment with the jack. Used an extra plastic washer to isolate the ground.

Personally, I love it. Looks good and doesn't interfere with hatch! I do notice a little whistle coming from the area when at high speeds. Do others get something similar with their mounts that have the antenna begin the truck rather than off to the side?

I can definitely see it in the mirror but it doesn't get in the way. When I need to I can quickly rotate the antenna down to be be even with the roof line without interfering with the doors!

Radio:

Control module is under the drivers seat power is hardwired to battery and grounded behind the seat belt pillar pigtail cord is tied to the seatbelt receiver to keep it from flopping on the floor.

Tuned to 1.2-1.8 across all channels with a 3ft firefly. My 2ft fs2 should be here today so I may need to re-tune!

I wanna put a spring on mine. It seems that when I go fast, the wind bends my antenna back and makes the mount start to slide off of the bracket I made.

Now let us know if your antenna smacks your truck when you brake or accelerate quickly haha. That's why mine is out to the side. Plus when it's out to the side, it's not blocked by the body as much, so you can get more of the oncoming traffic.

will do, the reason I wanted mine behind the tail light is, it would prob get ripped off out on the side, but this 2ft is not what Ill be using back there, Ill get a 4ft or maybe a 5ft antenna, if it does move to much and hit the body, Ill remove the spring and/or put a tennis/racquetball on there.
Im just glad its done lol

Lemme push you off the fence. My method rules and is EASY, no matter if you position the antenna behind or beside! Can't go wrong

First, anyone else running the coax and ground through the tail light bracket...are you getting moisture in the light housing like this?

Second, here's a pic I took with the 3ft firefly all in frame. Stuck up real high

And here's a pic of the 2ft FS-II I have on now:

I love the 2ft. It actually doesn't whistle anymore (since I put the 2ft on). I think it's partially because it's shorter, part because it's heavier (almost 2x the 3ft firefly!) and maybe because it doesn't have a loose-wrap design (the coil going around the antenna).

Being heavier, it doesnt sway while driving as much and seems a lot sturdier. I also think the fs-II looks more badass and my girlfriend agrees! The 3ft stuck up too high. It got a little better range I think but since it's more for the trails than talking to whack jobs, I'm fine with it. The 3ft is in my trunk in case I want the extra range at any point.
